The Red Cross Red Crescent in Tuberculosis control:  The Red Cross Red Crescent in Tuberculosis control Lasha Goguadze Senior Health Officer, Health and Care Department International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Slide2:  “The Movement" is a term covering two international institutions with headquarters in Geneva and National Societies in 185 countries. The two institutions are the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the International Federation). The National Societies comprise most of the more than 97 million Red Cross workers - the world's biggest volunteer force. Slide3:  The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world's largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 185 member Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around the world. There are more societies in formation. Network of 97 million volunteers Working at grass route level Working with the most vulnerable, reaching unreachable Working Together to Stop TB::  Working Together to Stop TB: International Federation is the member of Global Stop TB Partnership since 2004 is represented in the Coordination Board of the Stop TB Partnership As from 2006, the International Federation houses the Stop TB Regional Partnership for Europe and Central Asia Regional Partnership to Stop TB in Europe and Central Asia:  Regional Partnership to Stop TB in Europe and Central Asia Goals 1. To build the political commitment that is needed to ensure sustainable funding for full implementation of the Global Plan to Stop TB 2006-2015; 2. To facilitate coordination of all TB stakeholders in the region and achieve added value. 3. To build the capacity of civil society, affected communities and patients to support and participate in TB control efforts. Regional Partnership to Stop TB in Europe and Central Asia:  Regional Partnership to Stop TB in Europe and Central Asia 10-Point Partnership Action Plan for 2007 Develop a strategic plan to support a European ministerial forum on TB to be hosted by the German Ministry of Health in October 2007; Organize a World TB Day 2007 event in the European Parliament in Brussels; Map services and resources for TB in the European region; Draft a capacity-building plan to enable greater participation of civil society in TB control activities, especially national RC/RC societies; Develop a media campaign to raise awareness among European decision-makers; Map media and advocacy groups in the region and develop a long-term initiative to scale up media coverage of TB-related issues in affected countries; Undertake outreach activities to broaden the membership base of the Stop TB Partnership for Europe; Disseminate and promote best practice models for TB control in Europe; Engage relevant European and national decision-makers; Build collaborative mechanisms with HIV/AIDS and other relevant organizations.
