Why?  Recognised that students work in different ways to access information, in terms of time, place, device  Over a quarter of adults (27 per cent) and almost half of teenagers (47 per cent) now own a smartphone (ofcom 2011)  Want students to prepare for placements (Clarke 2006, Sharples 2008, Duffy 2011)

Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2008) R6.1 AEIs must provide students and those supporting practice learning with information that includes dates, outcomes to be achieved, and assessment documents for each period of practice learning

What is an app?  A piece of software that runs on a mobile device that has a specific function e.g.A game, such as Angry birds, or an educational app - Blackboard  Takes certain content from the web and bundles it up into an application for ease of use

Difference between access through web and via app  To access the placement information on studentcentral, students have to load their browser, login to studentcentral, navigate to placement information  To access the placement information by app there are three ways to do: ◦ Using the unique identification number for each placement ◦ Name of placement e.g. Cookson Attenborough ◦ Post code of placement
