• Placement is generally confused with term selection however both the terms possess different meaning. • Placement is done after selection. • WHAT IS PLACEMENT? • WHAT IS SELECTION?
Earlier ‘placement’ was considered a simple process: recruitment, selection, placement •Now many factors influence the process 1.Increased government pressure to hire and promote women and disadvantaged groups 2.Awareness about career development among employees
3.Individual differences in ability, interest, personality and individuality –a unique profile established for each individual and jobs matched optimally 4.Number of people and number of jobs available in the organization

• Once an employee is selected and placed on an appropriate job, the process of familiarizing him with the job and the organization is known as induction. • giving him basic information he needs to settle down quickly and happily and stars work.
BEFORE THEY ARRIVE:-PLANNING • Who will be involved in induction process. • Know their responsibilities. • Availability of IT services, like mail account, computers etc. if needed. • What local materials like work area, building layout etc. is needed. • Have plan and check list of activities and by whom it will be performed.
• Various videos of TCS history, work area, company culture etc. • Opportunity for the supervisor to explain the policies
