Stretching the muscles and tendons also improves circulation of water and nutrients throughout the body, which slows the aging process. It can also reduce stress and promote relaxation. Stretching the muscles can also help avoid muscle spasms, and stretching the neck muscles can reduce headaches. Now days when you hear someone say they have been running around it usually means they are busy running errands, sitting in traffic, or taking their kids to events. These activities do not challenge the muscles. In fact, many of these activities are done with poor posture and end up shortening the muscles and fascia. Muscles are meant to move. The advancements of modern society have made our lives more efficient and more stressful. While we can communicate and travel great distances, the methods require very little movement on our part.
