Slide1:  Ephesians 4:31 – 5:2 Slide2:  “(v.31) Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. (v.32) Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. … Ephesians 4:31,32…. Slide3:  “ (v.1) Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children (v.2) and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (NIV) Ephesians 5:1,2…. Slide4:  “BITTERNESS” doesn’t even touch the person you are “BITTER” toward, but it sure will harm you. Slide5:  defines “mental pain or resentment.” Slide6:  defines Strong feelings of hatred, resentment. defines “angry & resentful.” Slide7:  HURTS done to us. Slide8:  ANGER RESENTMENT BITTERNESS! Slide9:  “ (v.26) ‘In your anger do not sin’: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (v.27) and do not give the devil a foothold.” (NIV) Ephesians 4:26,27…. Slide10:  “Bitterness is like a cancer. It eats up on the host. But anger is like fire. It burns all clean.” (Maya Angelon) “You cannot be fueled by bitterness. It can eat you up but it cannot drive you.” (Benazir Bhutto) Slide11:  “See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (NIV) Hebrews 12:15…. Slide12:  Galatians 6:7,8…. “(v.7) Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (v.8) The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (NIV) Slide13:  Because…. Slide15:  Medical doctors says “BITTERNESS” will affect your body – your physical health. “BITTERNESS” has been medically linked to glandular problems, high blood pressures, cardiac disorders, ulcers and even insanity. Slide16:  One leading psychiatrist in America wrote …. “90% of all people in insane asylums could be released immediately if they would learn how to forgive, or how to be forgiven.” Slide17:  An article from The Gospel Herald wrote …. “There was a man whose health was good. He was sturdy and strong. His heart action and blood pressure were fine. Then his father died, and he got into a prolonged legal dispute with his sister about their father’s will. The case went to court, and the sister won. Slide18:  From that day on, the man could think of nothing more than the lawsuit and his sister. He talked about it, he thought about it, he filled himself with it – it became an obsession. And each day, he grew to hate his sister more. Then he began to have difficulty with his heart and blood pressure. Slide19:  Next, his kidneys bothered him. Before many months, complications killed him. It seems obvious that he died from bodily injuries brought on by powerful emotions. I believe the man killed himself, death by bitterness.” Slide20:  Charles Stanley in his book “The Gift Of Forgiveness” wrote …. “A friend of mine is a fine man and a fine pastor who loves God. His wife had cancer, and they sought the best medical help. The doctor who had been studying the relationship between cancer and negative emotions began to work with Mrs. Brown. Slide21:  She came to the doctor every day, and week after week, he tried to get her to cry. She would not cry. She could not cry. Somehow, there was simply nothing to cry about. But the doctor kept talking to Mrs. Brown. Then one day, in the midst of their conversation, she began to cry. Slide22:  As the tears gushed out, she confessed bitterness toward her parents for something that had happened years ago. When she got it all out she was free, liberated, and forgiven. Slide23:  Today Mrs. Brown stands by her husband’s side with love and support for his ministry. It is the doctor’s professional opinion that she would not have recovered from cancer, if she had not recovered first from bitterness.” Slide24:  When there is “BITTERNESS,” there is “DISCOURAGEMENT”. Because “BITTERNESS” leads to “PARANOIA.” Slide25:  If you hold on to it long enough – you will drop your “EMOTIONAL” arm in DISCOURAGEMENT. “Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.” (NIV) Slide26:  you and I to be negatively sensitive to every little thing – be it people, church or even God. will cause Slide27:  Hebrews 12:15…. “See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (NIV) Slide28:  Husband & wife Parents & children Among good friends Church leaderships & members Employer & employees, … Slide30:  Hebrews 12:15b…. “…no bitter root grows up….” The way to “GET RID” of “BITTERNESS” is to DIG UP THE ROOT OF BITTERNESS. Slide31:  How do you do this? RECOGNIZE your bitterness. REALIZE that it is your problem. CONFESS it as your sin. “BITTERNESS” isn’t base on what somebody did to you. It’s the result of what you have done with that offense. Slide32:  “ (v.22) Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. (v.23) When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) Let’s see… Slide33:  (v.24) So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, ‘What are we to drink?’ (v.25) Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them.” (NIV) Slide34:  The only hope and way for the “BITTER WATERS” sloshing around in your soul is for them to come into contact with the “CROSS” of Calvary. Slide35:  Are you “BITTER” against someone? Is there “BITTERNESS” in your heart towards someone? Is it tormenting you and is eating you up inside? Slide36:  Recognize it Realize it Confess it Get in contact with the of Jesus Christ. CROSS
