Slide 7: Basic Organizational Structure Complex Organizational Structure : Complex Organizational Structure Illustration of a Division Function (Specialized Unit) Slide 9: ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS Slide 11: RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN AND EFFECTIVENESS Slide 12: When organizational design is properly matched to the context in which the organization is operating, it may have a better chance at obtaining success. When Structural complexity such as formalization and goal setting have been properly matched to organizational strategy – the opportunity for success is increased. When An implementation plan is in place, the organization has an opportunity to achieve effectiveness Hannan and Freeman, 1977 Scott and Davis, 2007 Slide 13: Effects of Environment on Organizational Design Slide 14: An analysis of the key elements of organizational design and the organizations effectiveness can either enhance an organizations environment or present a myopic problem. To prevent an organization from being a bad paradigm one must determine the organizations characteristics of design and align it with the organizations effectiveness. Environment is very Important (Scott, 2003). Slide 15: Organizational Adaptation and Design Organizational Adaptation and Design Slide 16: As external pressure is exerted on the organization and it goes through the process of adaptation, the organization will focus on protecting the core processes and functions (Scott and Davis, 2007). Many new organizational characteristics may arise as a result of the adaptation process, such as improved information processing and strategy development, and the organization must evaluate its position and context within the new environment. Leaders within the organization must evaluate the most efficient way to use the available resources, which are people, processes, and information, and determine the best strategy to position the organization based on what it has to work with (Daft, 1983).
