A quick guide
The 3 essential functions: To provide parents with an assessment of the performance of the school and inform those who are in the process of choosing schools for children. Inform the parliament to what extent an acceptable standard of education is being provided, the use of public money and indicated where improvements are needed. Promote improvements of individual schools and the whole education system.

What inspectors must cover: Quality of leadership and management of the school. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils If the education provided meets the needs of the range of pupils (in particular disabled pupils and special educational needs pupils)
Tips to help with preparation: Be clear about the key messages you want to give. Make sure everyone is aware of these messages. Display Key messages in the staff room etc.

Tips to help with preparation: Make sure you can address the identified issues in the pre-inspection briefing. Make sure its clear what interviewees what to show and tell and the evidence they have. Make sure all teachers are clear and confident about what they are doing.
Tips to help with preparation: Independent people to provide a dummy interview with people most likely to be interviewed. Ask the independent people to walk the school to get an idea of what the inspector may say. This will allow for any issues to be addressed before the real inspection.
