Nursing 202 Library Information Finding Evidence-Based Resources/Studies

Reminders • Nursing 100 and 101 folders for general search information and research process info • nurs* for publication title • ProQuest login info in Learning Resources Group • Start with an Advanced Search in ProQuest • Boolean operators – AND (includes terms), OR will use either term, NOT (excludes terms)

Advanced Search Enter terms, check “peer reviewed” (do NOT check “evidence-based resources”), and enter date. Place cursor in search bar underneath “nurs*” bar then click on “Thesaurus.”

Thesaurus Click on the ProQuest Thesaurus

Thesaurus Continued Can browse terms, or enter terms and click “Find.”

Thesaurus continued Check terms then click “Add to Search.” (Notice the “OR”). But first…

Thesaurus continued Clicking on a blue linked term will show you broader terms, narrower terms, and related terms. You can also click on these for more terms. You can add these terms to your search.

Thesaurus continued Click on yellow “note” next to term to learn about it and related terms. Can add these terms to search.

Back to Advanced Search: Evidence Based Resources Click “search.”

Results • Click “scholarly journals.” • To modify search, click “modify search.”

Modify Search for RCTs • Takes you back to Advanced Search screen. • Erase your evidence based resources subject terms. • Click on Thesaurus.

Thesaurus • Entered my term – randomized controlled trials – and clicked “Find.” • Click on the blue term for a menu of terms to select (notice no box to check next to the term, so you must click it).

Thesaurus continued • Click on yellow note to see what terms the term “clinical trials” is used for. • Click box next to “clinical trials.” • Click “Add to Search.”

Back to Advanced Search: RCTs Click “Search.”

Results • Remember “Scholarly Journals.” • Modify search as needed.
