As a collective group, more than 8,000 Kiwanis clubs inmore than 80 countries address worldwide issuesby “Serving the Children of the World.” Theorganization’s International Office is in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Kiwanis International : Purpose: To improve the quality of life for children and families worldwide. Mission: As a thriving organization of men, women, and youth, we are dedicated to serving the children of the world and improving the quality of life worldwide. Vision: We will be the world’s premier organization engaging adult and youth volunteers to improve the quality of life worldwide. K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Kiwanis International 2002 NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION PROGRAM 3 Kiwanis International Objects of Kiwanis : Objects of Kiwanis To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship. To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill. Worldwide Service Focus : Worldwide Service Focus Young Children: Priority One is a program supported by Kiwanis International and thousands of clubs worldwide. It focuses on maternal and child health, child care and development, parent education and support, and safety and pediatric trauma. The Worldwide Service Project is a Kiwanis- family initiative in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to virtually eliminate the world’s leading cause of preventable mental retardation, iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). It is administered by the Kiwanis International Board of Trustees. Our District is 1 of ___ districts in Kiwanis International. Our Division is one of 25 divisions in the district. Our Club is one of 10 clubs in our division. About Our Club : K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Kiwanis International 2002 NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION PROGRAM 9 About Our Club Meeting day, time, and place: Regular Meetings: Thursday at 7:00 am, except 2nd Thursday is the Board Meeting. Meeting Place: Town of Buchanan Hall N178 County Hwy N. Last Thursday of month, breakfast meeting at Tootsies, 104 E. Kimberly Ave. 7:00 am. Day: 2nd Thursday of Month Time: 7:00 am. Location: Buchanan Town Hall Club Committees : K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Kiwanis International 2002 NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION PROGRAM 18 Club Committees Identify community needs Select projects for the year Plan projects Involve club members Implement projects Publicize projects Meet to review progress and plan new projects Every Member is expected to serve on a committee Sponsored Youth Service Clubs : K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Kiwanis International 2002 NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION PROGRAM 19 Sponsored Youth Service Clubs Key Club International for high school students K-Kids Club for elementary-age students Attendance & Absences : K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Kiwanis International 2002 NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION PROGRAM 20 Attendance & Absences Active participation is encouraged. You may make up an absence by attending a board meeting, club project, division council meeting, convention, committee meeting, or by attending an inter-club meeting. A leave of absence can be granted by the boardof directors for up to six months. Perfect attendance tabs are awarded for each 12 consecutive months of 100 percent attendance. Attendance years do not have to be consecutive. The District Convention is the kickoff for the new Kiwanis year, which runs from October to September. Club officers and interested members attend. The District Midyear Conference gives members an opportunity to attend classes and forums about club operation and other exciting topics.
