New Accessibility Certification for Mobile Apps Technosite, an enterprise specialised in accessible technologies and part of the Fundosa Group (ONCE Foundation), has developed a methodology to assess and certify the accessibility of mobile applications. The certification model defined by Technosite guarantees compliance with a set of accessibility requirements in mobile applications. Additionally, each application update is reviewed before its publication in order to ensure the maintenance of the accessibility level along time. The mobile applications certified by us are identified by a quality badge: the new Technosite Mobile Accessibility label. Nowadays, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 is the technical reference to create accessible websites. It is also the baseline document to build the guidance of applying WCAG 2.0 to non-Web Information and Communications Technologies (WCAG2ICT). Assessment methodology Technosite certifies the accessibility of mobile applications by means of a methodology based on WCAG 2.0 and adapted to the specific characteristics of mobile applications. The assessed accessibility requirements are presented below: Principle 1: Perceivable. Text Alternatives: Static and dynamic visual content / Visual, acoustic and haptic notifications. Time-based Media: Audio description and captions. Adaptable: Programmatically determinable information, structure and relationships. Distinguishable: Font and control size / Contrast and use of colour / Textual content colour. Principle 2: Operable. Operable through keyboard or switches. Enough Time: Timing adjustable / Pause, stop, hide. Seizures: Flashes. Navigable: Descriptive Titles / Navigation sequences in complete processes. Principle 3: Understandable Readable: Language /Logical distribution and grouping of content and controls. Predictable: Focus changes do not initiate a change of context / Consistent navigation. Input Assistance: Error identification and prevention / Control identification. Principle 4: Robust Compatible: Control labels/ Programmatically determinable identification of controls / Alternatives to control gestures / Compatibility with voice dictation.
