MISSION EXPLOSION INTERNATIONAL “Fixing  our  eyes  on  Jesus” Celebrating 25 Years of Ministry Rusty Swafford, Executive Director PO Box 1331, Athens, TN 37371-1331 Office: (865) 292-4411 E-mail: Info@MissionExplosion.com www.MissionExplosion.com March - April 2014 Newsletter Rusty's Writes: Dangers on the Mission Field Many have asked me about the dangers in Mexico and India. First let me share with you what the Apostle Paul said concerning his dangers - 2 Corinthians 11:23-28 …”in  far  more  labors,  in  far  more  imprisonments,  beaten  times  without   number, often in danger of death. Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern  for  all  the  churches.” Paul certainly faced the most extreme dangers and persecutions imaginable. Jesus said he would suffer greatly for His name, Acts 9:16. WE ALSO ENCOUNTER DANGERS ON THE MISSION FIELD TODAY Those who have traveled to India, Mexico and other countries with me over the years know all too well the dangers. If we were to write as Paul did we would say, suffered many hardships, been on frequent journeys, had many sleepless nights, dangers from rocks thrown at us for preaching the Gospel, been physically forced from many villages, dangers in the cities, dangers from Hindu priests disrupting our Worship, dangers on the planes, buses, and trains, dangers from sickness, disease and dysentery, dangers from the extreme heat, dangers from thieves and thugs, dangers from abductions, dangers from foreign governments and police, dangers from riots and political unrest, dangers from false brethren, and apart  from  such  external  things,  our  love  and  concern  for  the  Lord’s  Churches. Why do we keep going back with all of the clear and present dangers? We go because of our love for our Savior and His command to go into the world. We go because we love the brothers and sisters, the preachers, elders and their families. We understand and appreciate the sacrifices they make, the constant dangers and persecutions they face every day. We know the need to share the Gospel and to equip the Christians for works of service. We desire to aid the suffering, especially the poor, and the sick, we want to care for the widows and orphans and rescue the children from child trafficking and slave labor. Finally it is vitally important to encourage the Christians by telling them to keep the Faith. I would encourage everyone to go on a short term mission trip if you can, especially the youth of today. Our young people need  more  than  ever  to  see  how  the  “real  world”  lives  and  to  understand  how  much  we  Americans  take  for  granted.  If   taking a trip is not possible for you, then reach out to your friends, family and neighbors at home. Christians desperately need to step out of their comfort zones and become the light for Christ in this dark world. MEI needs your continued financial support and we value your prayers - in fact, we depend on them to keep reaching the lost around the world. 2014 India Mission Trips MEI will be hosting two trips to India – July 8-22 and December 1-15. The approximate cost for the trips will be $2,500. If you are planning to go to India, we need your $100 deposit no later than May 1st A passport and Visa are required to travel to India. 2014 Mexico Mission Trips You are invited to come down to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico – where  you’re  only minutes from the turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean. The Playa Del Carmen Church of Christ is located in a very poor area where the housing is substandard. Several ministry opportunities are available. We’re  hosting  7  to  10  day  trips  in  June  and July. The approximate cost will be $1,000 to $1,200. Only a passport needed, No Visa required for Mexico If you are planning to visit Mexico, we need your $50 deposit by April 1st Hope to see you in India or Mexico this year! For more information call 865-292-4411

Cost for this project - $750. India in the 10/40 Window “I  will  praise  you  among  the  nations,  O  Lord”  Psalm  18:49 The 1040 window is a rectangular area, located 10 and 40 degrees latitude north of the equator, the region where most of the unreached people live in the world. The people who are lost in the 10/40 Window are not "more lost" than your neighbors or family members who  don’t know Christ. But, they are "unreached" in  the  sense  that  they  haven’t had an opportunity to accept the Gospel. They do not have easy access to hear or read about Jesus the Savior from the Bible. Baptisms in India can be a real challenge. Many times we travel great distances to find sufficient water to immerse a person, especially out in the villages. The farmers use bore wells to flood the rice fields for planting. They fill the concrete tanks and then send the water out from there through PVC pipes to irrigate their crops. The farmers will allow us to turn on the well pump to fill the tank for baptisms. A hardship we’re   not accustomed to here in America. When the people understand that baptism is for the remission of sins, receiving the Holy Spirit and being added to the Kingdom of God, they are ready to be immersed anywhere, any place, and any time. Facts about those Living in the 10/40 Window * make up 2/3’s  of  the  world’s  population,  4.4  billion  people *85% of the people are the poorest of the poor *Only 7% of all international missionaries serve in the 10/40 *68 countries are listed in the 10/40 region Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Non-Religions

The Faces of India at Work! Many of you have asked about the working folks  of  India.  Over  the  years  I’ve  taken several interesting photos and would like to share them with you. We take for granted the niceties afforded to us in America. I hope you enjoy the photos and remember to thank God for your many blessings.
