E-Learning Creative Community Partnerships Project : E-Learning Creative Community Partnerships Project Embedding Effective Local Support for E-Learners in Rural Communities Background : Background CSU gains funding for E-Learning Creative Community Partnerships grant application CSU invites communities through Online Access Centres to apply for participation. Focus is on small rural communities. The Project : The Project Action Research Approach Investigate Implement Document Lets try something new or with a different spin, collect data and see if it is effective Research What? : Research What? Are study circles combined with E-Learning, an effective way to help people complete a Certificate 2 Business course? What are Study Circles? : What are Study Circles? Learners that would not normally have contact with each other forming groups to learn; discuss successes and share ideas; problem solve and encourage each other. Study Circles give people a voice who may have felt that they didn’t have a say or did not want to use their voice. By learning and sharing people may gain confidence that they have a justification for their opinions and ideas. Involves cooperative learning, team building, deeper thinking, respect and trust. Quite different from traditional E-learning which can be a rather solitary, skills focused way of learning. Picture a group of students individually working at computers all turning around to form a circle, share ideas and learn from each other. Coordinator’s Role To facilitate and support the study circles by maintaining a focus around life long learning. Target Groups : Target Groups Unemployed people People over 45 years of age Single Parents Outcomes : Outcomes The development of a successful model for the delivery of E-Learning available to other communities. New skill sets will be developed within the communities. Learners obtain Certificate 2 in Business. New pathway for people seeking educational opportunities. Implementation : Implementation Eight communities through OACs participate in the project. OACs identify participants from target groups and enrol learners. The Business Certificate has a workplace component so participants are required to complete volunteer hours. Coordinators facilitate study circles with the Business students as the core group. Coordinators participate in an online group to document and journal progress during the project. (Mini Action Researches) Cert 2 BusinessVSCert 2 Information Technology : Cert 2 BusinessVSCert 2 Information Technology Although there is much common content, the IT program has as its focus “use of information technologies” whereas the Business Program sees use of information technology as one dimension of the broader range of skills Cert 2 Business Units : Cert 2 Business Units Work effectively in a business environment Organise and complete daily work activities Communicate in the workplace Deliver a service to customers Provide information to clients Participate in workplace safety procedures Create customer relationships Produce simple word processed documents Produce simple spreadsheets Use business technology Process customer feedback Either / or Create electronic presentations Produce business documents Units in bold are the customer service units which made up the practical workplace component of the course. These units and their assessments focus on self management, communication, researching, and reflection which provided a great opportunity for study circle ideas and discussion. What barriers, difficulties or blockers have prevented or delayed me from undertaking further education in the past? What are my future goals? How will I get there? Time Management.
