Introduction to Missions: Introduction to Missions MI 103 Dr. Robert Patton Introduction of Missions: Introduction of Missions Lesson 16 Missions in Your Family Dr. Robert Patton Introduction:  Introduction Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Many entering the ministry choose self-imposed reduction of salary compared to what is possible in a secular pursuit God always pays back:  God always pays back We need to remember that money is uncertain riches – but God always provides for His own Be conscious that you are stewards of what God gives to you Finances:  Finances God is interested in what we have after giving, not just in what we give Luke 21:And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. 2. And he saw also a certan poor widow casting in thither two mites. 3 And he said, Of a truth I saw unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. What is left?:  What is left? Luke 21:4 For all these have of their abundance cast into unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she hath. Motivation:  Motivation II Cor. 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. But verse 7: Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity : for God loveth a cheerful giver. Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9:  Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9 8:1-5 Example of Macedonia God’s grace enabled them to give above their ability despite their poverty They gave themselves first to the Lord Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9:  Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9 8:6-9 God’s greatest example – Jesus Christ He became poor so that we could become rich This is grace – supernatural power from God Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9:  Key chapters – II Corinthinans 8 & 9 8:10-14 Start now rather than later Acceptance is on what you have, not what you do not have Equality – those who have can help now, maybe reversed later Example of manna – enough for all II Corinthians 9:  II Corinthians 9 Vs. 1-5 Macedonia was poor but already gave – Paul does not want to have shame Vs. 6 – Sow bountifully; reap bountifully. Sow sparingly, reap sparingly 7 & 8 we hae seen. Give freely . God will enable II Corinthians 9:  II Corinthians 9 9-15 God will bless and give you the grace And we should be thankful to God for his unspeakable gift Example of giving: the widow’s mite Three types of giving:  Three types of giving Spare change – does not affect our living Giving as tithing, etc. – giving that affects our living and lifestyle Giving of your living – requiring the grace of God Three types of giving:  Three types of giving Remember: Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Three FORMS of giving:  Three FORMS of giving Tithe – 10% of first fruits, give off your gross Offerings: I believe that an offering is ABOVE the tithe, not below it – I have taught that to our people in Suriname. Mal. 3:8-10 shows that we can ROB God with tithes and offerings Three FORMS of giving:  Three FORMS of giving Faith promise – Commit each year for missions a specific amount trusting that God will provide. Do this ahead, and trust God. Usually the amount increases yearly as your faith increases Do it in faith Do it regularly – 1 Cor. 16:1-7 What about other types?:  What about other types? Material goods Property Time and talents Unusual example – Hanna gave up Samuel before he was even conceived How to give – two ideas:  How to give – two ideas Local church giving Funnel everything through the local church Also – Para-church giving Personally, I believe that the tithe is for the local church I would want this giving to be above and beyond the local church Personal examples:  Personal examples USA – Maida Blake Suriname Julia Olmbergy Margaretha Talea Your task:  Your task You need to decide what you will be doing in this area.
