En la meiosis ocurren dos divisiones celulares sucesivas, Meiosis I (Reducción) y Meiosis II (División).

La meiosis II es similar a la mitosis. Sin embargo no hay fase "S". Las cromátidas de cada cromosoma ya no son idénticas en razón de la recombinación. La meiosis II separa las cromátidas produciendo dos células hijas, cada una con 23 cromosomas (haploide), y cada cromosoma tiene solamente una cromátida. La meiosis II las cromátidas hermanas que forman cada cromosoma se separan y se distribuyen en los núcleos de las células hijas.

Profase II Durante la Profase II, la membrana nuclear (si se formó durante la Telofase I) se disuelve, y aparecen las fibras del huso, al igual que en la profase de la mitosis. En realidad la Meiosis II es muy similar a la mitosis.

Metafase II La Metafase II es similar a la de la mitosis, con los cromosomas en el plano ecuatorial y las fibras del huso pegándose a las caras opuesta de los centrómero en la región del cinetocoro.

Anafase II Durante la Anafase II, el centrómero se divide y las entonces cromátidas, ahora cromosomas, son segregadas a los polos opuestos de la célula.

Telofase II La Telofase II es idéntica a la Telofase de la mitosis. La citocinesis separa a las células.
