March/April 2014 WHAT’S ON Kids & Families Follow Us Marvelous Maker March Break! March 7 to 14 Don’t miss our special March Break insert with all of the fun and exciting programs you can be a part of during your school break. Programs include: » March Break Movies » Decoupage » Drum Artz » Animation Workshop » Lego » And more! Registration required. eReading Room: just for kids An exclusive collection for your child Do you have a kid that loves technology? We have just the thing for them! In February we launched an eReading Room just for kids. You will find a wide selection including picture books, learning to read books and chapter books. And if you are familiar with our adult eBook collection, you’ll find that downloading books from the kids area is just as easy. You can search for books by: Subject – Fiction, Non Fiction Humour, Mystery, Picture Book Fiction, Science Fiction and Mystery Collections – New Additions, Most Popular, Recently Returned, Harry Potter Levels – Interest Level, ATOS Level, Lexile Measure, Reading Level With all of these options, it’s easy to find what your child is looking for. Bring your child to our Tech Day program (part of Ajax Reading Circle) on March 22 where Library staff will show them how to view animated books on an iPad and Kobo (see back page for details). You will also find some of the Snuggle Up and Read books in the eReading Room including the Timber Wolf series, and Panic in Pittsburg and Danger in Dinosaur Valley by Roy MacGregor.

Gamers Club March 1 & April 5 1:30 – 3 p.m. Main Branch Calling young gamers! It’s time to get connected. Meet other kids your age and compete in multiplayer tournaments of hit games such as Skylanders Giants, Mario Kart Wii and Mario Party 9, followed by free play of any games the group would like. Family Film Disneynature: Wings of Life Wednesday, April 23 6:30 p.m. Main Branch Rated G Join us for a special screening of this Disney documentary that delves into the realm of flowers and their pollinators. Eco Kids Backyard Adventures Saturday, April 26 1 - 2:30 p.m. McLean Branch Explore the creatures that live in our backyards! Make a Toad Abode to take home. For children ages 6 and up. Are you looking for support and the ability to share and learn from other parents and guardians who face similar challenges? Join the Durham ADHD Parent Support Group for an evening of sharing and learning. Free refreshments will be provided. Ajax REading Circle Early Years Programs Read to Succeed Bouncing Babies - 0 to 12 months Saturdays – March 22 to May 17  10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Main Branch Session 1 – Wednesdays – March 5, 19 & 26 Session 2 – Wednesdays – April 2 - 30 2 – 3 p.m. or 3:30–4:30 p.m. Main Branch Readers from age 4 to 12 read with high school volunteers on Saturday mornings. Share stories and improve your reading skills with your big buddy. French assistance is available. Learn how to incorporate music and musical instruments into baby’s everyday play experiences.
