MARKET UPDATE March 12th 2014

WEATHER How does weather affect the economy? Affects fundamental supply and demand in certain industries Precipitation intuitively has a stronger affect on the economy than temperature does We are more concerned about abnormal weather patterns than we are about bad weather in general Also plays a role in decreasing consumer and business confidence and livelihood How have we been hit this winter so far? Reductions in shopping and consumer spending Utility outages, disruption of supply chains, upset production schedules Some upward pressure on energy and construction prices Job growth declines Slower economic growth and contraction in some areas of the economy

MEN’S WEARHOUSE AND JOS. A BANK Merger is complete Some details • Deal closes at $65 per share, still a premium to Bank’s market record • 56% premium to Bank’s market price when the first move was made • $1.8B in cash, not stock • The two have been negotiating (not necessarily friendly in nature) since October • They had no intention of buying Eddie Bauer – extremely strong executive strategy from Bank • Implications from last slides: • Store closures to eliminate costs and make the entity more efficient • Bank executives will have a very strong presence in senior management, especially after what we have seen in these negotiations • Merger will lead to IT overhauls, improved purchasing power, lower overhead, more efficient marketing and customer service • Annual revenue estimated to be at $3.5B, savings $100M

Classification as a commodity focuses on fungibility Unlike stocks or bonds, end commodities are interchangeable Analysis of the underlying product is unnecessary and is usually impossible The only determinant of price is supply and command Why invest in commodities?
