To encourage and facilitate cooperation among engineering faculties, industry, and government to enhance effectiveness of engineering education; 3. To assess and recommend policies to promote excellence in engineering education in Turkey. Slide3:  History and Entity Turkish Engineering Deans Council (MDK) is established in January 2001. It is composed of all the Deans of Engineering Faculties in State and Private Universities in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC). MDK is a not a State Organisation or an Association. It is a non-governmental initiative. MDK Meeting 18 Mart University Çanakkale Slide7:  A Succes Story of MDK: MÜDEK Jan 2002:MDK decided to establish a National Accreditation System for Engineering Education May 2002: Engineering Evaluation Board (MÜDEK) was formed by MDK 2003-2007: 44 programs were evaluated (including 10 interim evaluations) Jan 2007:MÜDEK was transformed into an association in January 2007 ; MÜDEK is also a full member of European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE). Slide8:  Objectives: Develop and run a detailed program for evaluating (accrediting) engineering programs of MDK (Turkish Engineering Deans Council) member faculties which grant “engineering degree” to their graduates Main Tasks: Evaluation (accreditation) of engineering programs Selection and training of evaluators Providing information and training to program chair persons and staff members on program evaluation Reviewing and updating the program evaluation criteria Slide9:  Recent Developments Current Agenda MDK was recognized by Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and Interuniversity Board (ÜAK). MDK initiative has been given as a good example in Strategic Plan of YÖK for other disciplines Establishment of National Engineering Qualifications Framework for three cycles (BSc, MSc, PhD) Slide10:  MDK view on IFEES IFEES is a pro-active initiative for promoting engineering education globally and IFEES will be soon a good example for other disciplines.
