Printing of physicians’ and nurses’ IMCI training guides and reporting and recording tools in the print shop of MOH. As a policy, the IMCI drug list will be used as the reference list for procurement of child medicines all over the country. Yearly Budget allocation for IMCI training (included in the PHC budget). Forms of Political commitment to IMCI implementation (3):  Forms of Political commitment to IMCI implementation (3) 2. Governors: Provision of pre-fabricated rooms to increase the capacity of the IMCI health facilities (Hamah Governorate) Official circular to stabilize the IMCI trained staff to solve the problem of high turnover (Hamah & Damascus) 3. Governorates Health Directors: Participation in most of the IMCI activities in the field Provision of supplies and equipment necessary for IMCI implementation Regular provision of all IMCI drugs. Stabilization of IMCI trained staff to solve the problem of health providers turn over. Renting of drug stores for IMCI drugs (Hamah Governorate) Forms of Political commitment to IMCI implementation (4):  Forms of Political commitment to IMCI implementation (4) Community (Hamah Governorate): Request by the neighboring districts’ representatives to introduce IMCI into their districts. Readiness and willingness of community representative to contribute in equipping health facilities to implement IMCI. Forms of political commitment to IMCI implementation (5):  Forms of political commitment to IMCI implementation (5) 5. International Organizations Advocacy by WHO Briefing of the highest level of health authorities and political leaders, making a case for supporting IMCI (Briefing, evidence). Technical assistance of WHO Organization and conduct of various IMCI activities. Financial assistance of WHO & UNICEF Maintaining a high level of political commitment (1):  Maintaining a high level of political commitment (1) a. Dissemination of results of monitoring & evaluation activities (follow up visits). Maintaining the good quality of training f. Maintaining the good quality of health services provided to children at HF level g. Good advocacy (marketing) for IMCI h. Maintaining the team work spirit Lessons learnt (1):  Lessons learnt (1) Continued high political commitment is behind the success of the IMCI implementation in Syria Replicate the successful experience of Hamah (involve political leaders…etc) Continued Collaboration with WHO in briefing decision makers & sharing the results & problem solving with them, is a crucial factor for advocating and supporting the strategy. Full Involvement of partners in all the steps of IMCI implementation created the feeling of ownership, their continued support throughout the process, allocation of resources and sharing in advocacy for IMCI. Lessons learnt (2):  Lessons learnt (2) Continued feedback to all levels raised the interest, motivated the health providers Motivation at all levels is essential and is possible by many ways (moral and financial whenever possible). Lessons learnt (3):  Lessons learnt (3) The availability of standard approach to planning and implementing IMCI (planning, training, health systems & community), maximized the outcome of the work and resulted in a good quality (good organization of work, ownership and advocacy for IMCI).
