League Information and Format • The commissioner is Don Garber. He has had that position since 1999. He took over for Doug Logan who was the commissioner from the start in 1993. • The season has 34 games. Range from the beginning of March to the beginning of December (including playoffs) • 19 teams, 21 teams by 2015

Playoff Format • Playoffs differ from big time European soccer leagues • The best regular season record wins the Supporter’s Shield • Top 3 teams in each conference qualify for playoffs. Next four best teams earn wild-card berths • High-Seed vs. Low-Seed. Two games, aggregate goals. • Final receives the Phillip F. Anschutz Trophy (MLS Cup) - Currently held by Sporting Kansas City

MLS Expansion • The MLS will expand to 21 teams in 2015. – Adding a team in New York City (New York FC) – Adding a team in Orlando (Orlando City SC) – The possibility of bringing a team to Miami, owned by David Beckham is still under review. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20140220
