Electric currents create magnetic fields; and a magnet can produce electricity. This phenomena is called electromagnetism . Electric currents produce magnetism : Electric currents produce magnetism If you wrap a conducting wire around an iron rod and then pass an electric current throught it, you can see that the iron rod attracts metal objects. Magnets produce electricity: Magnets produce electricity De vices using magnetism to create electricity are electromagnetic generators , such as alternators. We find them in hydroelectric power stations, wind farms and thermal power stations, from there electricity is delivered to our homes. Vocabulary: Electromagnetism: magnetism produced by electric current. Wrap: to fold(paper, cloth, etc) around a person or thing. Rod: a slim cylinder of metal, wood, etc, for example, a fishing rod. Wind farms: places from where we obtain energy thanks to wind. Vocabulary Questions: Q uestions What can electric currents create ? How is this phenomena called ? They can create magnetism . This phenomena is called electromagnetism . What happens if you wrap a conducting wire around an iron rod and you pass electric current through it ?
