Living in Forgiveness : Living in Forgiveness December 03, 2008 Slide 2: 2 We must come to the place that we learn how to “LIVE IN GOD’S FORGIVENESS” through His Son Jesus and the renewing of our minds by the WORD! Ask yourself this question: does the Blood of Jesus wash away sins completely? Opening Illustration: One night in a church service a young woman felt the tug of the Holy Spirit in her heart. She responded to God's call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol, drugs and prostitution. But, the change in her was evident. As time went on she became a faithful member of the church. She eventually became involved in the ministry teaching young children. It not very long until this faithful young woman had caught the eye and the heart of the pastor's son. The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans. This is when the problems began. You see, about one half of the church did not think that a woman with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor's son. The church began to argue and fight about the matter. So they decided to have a meeting. See next slide: Slide 3: 3 g As the people made their arguments and tensions increased, the meeting got completely out of hand. The young woman became very upset about all the things being brought up about her past. As she began to cry, the pastor's son stood to speak. He could not bear the pain is was causing his wife to be. He began to speak and his statement was this: "MY FIANCEE'S PAST IS NOT WHAT IS ON TRIAL HERE. WHAT YOU ARE QUESTIONING IS THE ABILITY OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS TO WASH AWAY SIN. TODAY YOU HAVE PUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS ON TRIAL. SO, DOES IT WASH AWAY SIN OR NOT?" The whole church became very quiet, and then people began to weep as they realized that they had been slandering the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Slide 4: 4 Too often, even as Christians, we bring up the past and use it as a weapon against our brothers and sisters. Forgiveness is a very foundational part of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. If the blood of Jesus does not cleanse the other person completely, then it cannot cleanse us completely. If that is the case, then we are all in a lot of trouble. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus... end of case! You are blessed of God, now take those blessings and bless someone else. 2 POINTS: : 2 POINTS: #1 SEE OUR SIN 5 2 POINTS: : 2 POINTS: #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR 6 2 POINTS: : 2 POINTS: #1 SEE OUR SIN We must come to see sin as what it is a LOAD! Sin is a burden that binds us over more and more each day enslaving us into death resulting bondage! #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR But after we see our sin we must sin Jesus Christ as not just our SAVIOR but as the ONE who makes us a new creature in HIM! Now we must start to look in the WORD and see ourselves forgiven and placed in the family of God! 7 Our Text: Romans 3:23 : Our Text: Romans 3:23 23 For ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 8 Our Text: Romans 3:23 : Our Text: Romans 3:23 23 For ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Just suppose that the HOLE is God’s perfect standard – HIS GLORY – and we (the whole world) have come up just short of that because ALL have sinned! Q. How many have sinned? A. ALL!!! So what can be done – see next slide: 9 ADMISSION#1 SEE OUR SIN : ADMISSION#1 SEE OUR SIN 1 John 1:8 If WE say that we have no sin, we DECEIVE ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Sin = DEATH Forgiveness = LIFE 10 ADMISSION#1 SEE OUR SIN : ADMISSION#1 SEE OUR SIN 11 “no sin” = “DECEIVE” #4105 (plan-ah'-o) to (properly cause to) roam (from safety, truth, or virtue): - go astray, deceive, err, seduce, wander, BE OUT OF THE WAY. Remember what Jesus said about Himself: *John 14:6 says Jesus saith unto him, I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. #1 SEE OUR SIN2 Samuel 12:7 & 13 : #1 SEE OUR SIN2 Samuel 12:7 & 13 7 And Nathan said to David, THOU ART THE MAN… (Take Responsibility) 13 And David said unto Nathan, I HAVE SINNED against the LORD... 12 #1 SEE OUR SIN2 Samuel 12:7 & 13 : #1 SEE OUR SIN2 Samuel 12:7 & 13 13 Be honest with yourself and with the LORD! Come clean quickly – King David is a example of admitting quickly WHEN confronted! #1 SEE OUR SIN Confession = Forgiveness : #1 SEE OUR SIN Confession = Forgiveness 1 John 1:9 If WE confess our sins, HE is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 14 #1 SEE OUR SIN 2 Samuel 12:13 : #1 SEE OUR SIN 2 Samuel 12:13 13 And David said unto Nathan, I HAVE SINNED against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, THE LORD ALSO HATH PUT AWAY THY SIN; thou shalt not die. 15 #1 SEE OUR SIN 2 Samuel 12:13 : #1 SEE OUR SIN 2 Samuel 12:13 16 PRAISE THE LORD for His grace! With our admittance, repentance then comes forgiveness! Now we accept that and start to live in it rather than our guilt! #1 SEE OUR SIN God Can’t LIE! : #1 SEE OUR SIN God Can’t LIE! 1John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, WE MAKE HIM A LIAR, and his word is not in us. 17 #1 SEE OUR SIN God Can’t LIE! : #1 SEE OUR SIN God Can’t LIE! *Titus 1:2 says In hope of eternal life, which GOD, THAT CANNOT LIE, promised before the world began; *Hebrews 6:18 says That by two immutable things, in which IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 18 HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example : HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, ALL ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 19 HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example : HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example Matthew 26:32–33 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I NEVER BE OFFENDED. 20 HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example : HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example Matthew 26:34–35 34 Jesus said unto him, VERILY I SAY unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 PETER SAID unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. 21 HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example : HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example 22 Who was right Jesus the LORD or Peter the fisherman? What happened? Peter did just exactly what Jesus Christ said he would do! HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example : HEAR the WORDPeter’s Example SO PETER SINNED – NOW WHAT? 23 #1 SEE OUR SINCan’t Go BACK! : #1 SEE OUR SINCan’t Go BACK! John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I GO A FISHING. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately: and that night they caught nothing. 24 #1 SEE OUR SINCan’t Go BACK! : #1 SEE OUR SINCan’t Go BACK! READ John 21 . Notice the others followed Peter back to the OLD WAY OF LIFE! Others are looking and listening – BE ON GUARD! Remember “they caught nothing” – the old way of life has NOTHING for us!  . 25 #1 SEE OUR SINOBEDIENCE! : #1 SEE OUR SINOBEDIENCE! John 21:6 And HE SAID unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. 26 #1 SEE OUR SINOBEDIENCE! : #1 SEE OUR SINOBEDIENCE! You may be right now in a similar situation as the disciples – SEPARATED from the LORD but just as HE is doing with them HE is no respector of persons! HE desires to make us productive – fruitful! 27 #1 SEE OUR SINBe Covered! : #1 SEE OUR SINBe Covered! John 21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when SIMON PETER HEARD that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. 28 #1 SEE OUR SINBe Covered! : #1 SEE OUR SINBe Covered! Note Peter was called Simon Peter when he “heard” it was the LORD on the bank! He “cast himself in the sea”. This is a type of being covered – being forgiven! “ADMITANCE = FORGIVENESS” 29 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORInsufficiency – NO MORE : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORInsufficiency – NO MORE John 21:8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were 200 cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. 30 #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR Insufficiency – NO MORE : #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR Insufficiency – NO MORE John 21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a 153: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. 31 #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR Insufficiency – NO MORE : #2 SEE OUR SAVIOR Insufficiency – NO MORE #153 in Bible numbers = “FRUITBEARING”. We can only bear fruit when we abide in the Vine – being branches! Simon Peter was now abiding! 32 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, FEED MY LAMBS (3 times). 33 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! Confession = Forgiveness – now we must see our Savior – His Heart & His Word! God’s type of love is active love! *John 21:16-17 says 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, FEED MY SHEEP. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, FEED MY SHEEP. 34 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! TIMES Denial Then Acceptance 35 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! “lovest thou me” - FEED MY LAMBS. 36 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 37 *Matthew 7:15 says Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. *Acts 20:29 says For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 38 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! You like Peter NOW must live in forgiveness! Here Peter stands up & preaches – he feeds the sheep – he shows his love toward Christ who had first loved him. Peter was no longer seeing himself as a fisherman a who was a sinner! 39 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! *Luke 5:1-10 says 1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net broke. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 WHEN SIMON PETER SAW IT, HE FELL DOWN AT JESUS' KNEES, SAYING, DEPART FROM ME; FOR I AM A SINFUL MAN, O LORD. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 40 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! Acts 2:38, 41 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about 3,000 souls. 41 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 42 Glory to God see how our livers change when we stop seeing ourselves as a sinner but rather we start seeing ourselves in Christ – WE START SEEING OUR SAVIOR! As we see HIM we see who HE has made us and that we can do ALL things through HIS strength! Peter had saw what the young lad did when he gave what he had to the LORD and now Peter was giving his all back to the LORD and 3,000 souls were saved! #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 43 *John 6:9-13 says 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. SO THE MEN SAT DOWN, IN NUMBER ABOUT FIVE THOUSAND. 11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 44 #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 45 Notice the mirror gives a false image – false reflection! STOP looking in the mirror of the natural and look into the WORD of GOD – the Bible and then you will see who you truly are in CHRIST! #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 46 *James 1:22-25 says 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! : #2 SEE OUR SAVIORLiving in FORGIVENESS! 47 WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST  "UNDERSTANDING YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS AT LIVING THE VICTORIOUS CHRISTIAN LIFE."                                    I  am accepted... I am God's child ~ John 1:12 As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ ~ John 15:15 I have been justified ~ Romans 5:1 I am united with the Lord, and I am one with Him in spirit ~ 1 Cor 6:17 I have been bought with a price, and I belong to God ~ 1 Cor 6:19-20 Living in Forgiveness : Living in Forgiveness
