Description

Have you ever wonder how is the acceptance of LinkedIn in Malaysia? Do we Malaysian still need to do more for LinkedIn. Will LinkedIn help to secure a job? Check out how I see it here...

LinkedIn in Malaysia Most of us know that if you are looking for job, you need to post your experience on LinkedIn besides job portals. But in Malaysia, that is not really the case. You see, many Malaysian still rely on job portals, email and snail mailing their resume to future employers. Now you might argue that many Malaysian employers don’t have a LinkedIn page and I do agree. But the question is, are you going to be reactive until employers start to engage LinkedIn? REMEMBER: your fellow competitors (job seekers) probably are having the same thought as you. “I’ll build my LinkedIn profile only when it is necessary.” When that happens, it will be another round of cut throat competition. We are living in a highly competitive world. You will be forgotten if you don’t step up. Also, with the noise an employer has to filter through, you don’t get much attention if you remain status quo. You need to take more initiative to build your future. So, imagine you are able to state in your resume “Please refer to my LinkedIn profile, LinkedIn.com/xyz for more skills endorsement and recommendation.” Wouldn’t that give you an edge and make you look better than your competitor? As how I see it, starting early with LinkedIn is about building authority in your industry and wow the future employer when they are checking you out. It is not just a dull channel to post your resume. It is after all a social media platform. It requires INTERACTION. I will suggest you join the groups that are related to your industry and interest (which can be totally different from your industry). Participate in group discussions and add value to the groups. This is also a wonderful way to keep you close to the development in your industry. Again, you can utilize the info you got from the group to amaze your future employers.  Lastly, LinkedIn is not just for job prospecting. It is also a marvelous platform for business networking. If you are starting a business or looking for new opportunities, give LinkedIn a try. This is purely my observation and do let me know if you think otherwise. You are welcome to comment below.  Happy LinkedIn, Michael Let’s Connect http://ow.ly/ufevN
