Slide 1: Lima Kids Is a social welfare program operated under the umbrella of AB-Prisma, a Peruvian Non Governmental Organization. Our work targets marginalized and disadvantaged children living in orphanages or on the streets of Lima Slide 2: LIMAKIDS works with socially excluded children in three different areas: the free health clinic, the soccer league, and outreach to children living in the streets. LIMAKIDS : Founding Principles : LIMAKIDS : Founding Principles “Children have a right to play.” We offer the following projects to supplement care and education provided by the children’s orphanages: Soccer League, Photography Project, Personal Development Workshops. “Children have a right to have access to health care.” We provide health care to children and adolescents who have become socially excluded and are without access to medical services. This is acheived through the following programs: The Street Clinic Project which provides care to children living on the street, The Identify Document Project an initiative assisting children who have fallen out of the system to obtain formal identity documentation which is essential in accessing health care, and finally the Research Projects investigating ways to improve the health of our population. Slide 5: Values Workshop LimaKids Soccer League : LimaKids Soccer League . Based on principles of fair play and respect. Concieved by Dave Moore and Joe Donroe in 2004 by adopting the format of a program known as “Street League”, originally set up in England. LimaKids hosts a tournament of six-a-side soccer (known as fulbito in Peru). The initial tournament began with 10 orphanages and 250 kids and has grown in 2008 to include 29 orphanages and 450 kids. * The League is structured into the following categories: male and female teams ages 12 and under, 12 to14 and 15 to 18.* Each team requires a volunteer trainer, who are often from Peru and abroad and who donate their time twice weekly to train for tournament matches every other Saturday.* Our volunteers undertake training and preparation enabling them to work with children who often experience behavioral difficulties arising from backgrounds of being abandoned, living away from families, addiction problems, the psychological effects of child labour and who have been victims of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. : * The League is structured into the following categories: male and female teams ages 12 and under, 12 to14 and 15 to 18.* Each team requires a volunteer trainer, who are often from Peru and abroad and who donate their time twice weekly to train for tournament matches every other Saturday.* Our volunteers undertake training and preparation enabling them to work with children who often experience behavioral difficulties arising from backgrounds of being abandoned, living away from families, addiction problems, the psychological effects of child labour and who have been victims of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Slide 10: The Lima Kids League normally runs for a period of 5 months. The children undertake training twice weekly with the competitive league games taking place every second weekend. The league is divided in to two stages. Stage one involves each team competing in a league basis and the second stage sees the teams moving in to an elimination phase. During each matchday workshops are undertaken with the children which focus on personal development. On match days points are not only awarded for goals made, but also for positive conduct on and off the pitch. Points are awarded for team spirit, an absence of physical and verbal aggression, punctuality, respectful and courteous behavior by players and positive support from accompanying supporters.
