Description

Note to music lovers. Some scholars have said about this opera that its music content is one of the most caring of the genre. To appreciate it better, please increase the volume.

First introduced in Paris in 1883, Lakmé is set in India in the XIX century when, during the English colonization, the population was forced to go into hiding for practicing their own religion.

The plot reveals a troubled love story between Lakmé, daughter of a priest Brahman, and an officer of the English army who unseen enters the temple, becomes fascinated by her remarkable beauty and falls in love at first sight.

In retaliation for the blasphemy of the holy place, the father of Lakmé ambushed the soldier and stabbed him. Although badly wounded, Lakmé has compassion saving his life, keeping him hidden and falling in love with him.

The romance ends when the soldier is convinced by an English officer to go back to the army. Lakmé realizes that she is a victim of an impossible love and she commits suicide.

The musical context of this opera is really beautiful, as beautiful as it is the “Flower Duet” from the first act that wet are listening now in an instrumental version, as we prepare for a grand finale. Flower Duet From the first act

Under the thick dome where the white jasmine Assembles at the rose On the river of flowers laughing in the morning Come, let's descend together. Let's follow the fleeing current: In one trembling hand, One nonchalant, Come, let's find the bank Where the source sleeps. And the bird, the bird sings.
