Kwanzaa By Brant M. and Seth J.

In 1966 Karenga started a holiday we now know as Kwanzaa.

Kwanzaa is based on seven principles. They are unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

There are also 7 symbols of Kwanzaa, they are as followed: Mazzao, rewards for the work we do Mkeka, our base or foundation Kinara, to tie to the land, our ancestors Vibunzi, cycle of life Zawadi, gifts, presents Kikombe Cha Umoja, all drink from the same cup. Unity. Misumma Saba, one for each day of Kwanzaa they, represent the days of celebration. 3 red for the struggle, 1 black for the people, and 3 green for the land.

There are also different foods people eat at Kwanzaa and some of them are sweet potato pie, African vegetarian stew, southern fried okra, peanut soup, and benne cakes.
