Link Community Development- Khensani Primary School and Tithe Barn Primary School

School Improvement The Link and its Effect on Professional Development for Teachers Mr F. Sebolela

School Improvement Plan Structure brought by the development of a SIP (School Improvement Plan) has developed a clear vision for the school and it’s staff, Identifying areas to focus on and giving clear and realistic targets for staff to achieve. This coupled with school policies and first hand experiences makes a significant difference to the schools management.

Early Steps Identifying needs early on in the partnership brought instant development and resources through direct funding, for example the paving in school to improve the immediate area or the purchase of equipment such as books and clothing. However this was very much delivering ‘short term’ goals in material goods.

Becoming Focused As the link developed we identified the need to use the partnership to develop skills and training for staff, a role that the exchange visits played a huge part in. This ranged from visiting Tithe Barn to get a feel of its structure and organisation of staff, to receiving their staff to share our knowledge and culture with them and gain their expertise through training.

Visits provide inspiration for change. From here to England.

Across continents. From one place to another.

Into classrooms. Changing lives.

The development of ICT within the school has enabled closer contact between the schools. Sharing news with the world on our weblogs, and our experiences together via e-mail.

Exchanging of e-mails, digital photo and video attachments, as well as traditional forms such as letters, have motivated children to learn. As well as empowering our staff, giving us opportunities to succeed.

A true link develops all The foundations and structure for the development in Khensani School have been set. Through a range of experiences and partnerships, teachers are beginning to empower themselves and are grasping vital skills to allow their learners to grow. We are learning ‘how to fish’ with the help of others, but we are also helping others to learn about our past, our cultures, our languages and our strengths, because a link is a two way thing.
