KG1 Teacher, Sarah O’Shaugnessy Completes Her First Marathon The Dubai Marathon is one of the world's leading long distance races and gives an opportunity for local athletes to join the world's elite as they complete the 42km course. This year KG1 teacher, Sarah O'Shaugnessy completed her first Marathon. Here is what she has to say about her experience: "On Friday 24th January 2014 I completed my first ever Marathon. I got up around 5am in order to have breakfast and get prepared for what was ahead of me. Once reaching the marathon start there were so many people and it became more real that I would be running for a very long time. The elite athletes started first around 7am and we weren't long after. I was running at a steady pace and doing well until about 23k when my knee started to hurt (an injury I had got the previous week from all the training). I got a boost when running past the JBS water stand and Miss McCabe and some of the kids started cheering for me. The last 12k was a real struggle but I managed to get through it with the support of friends along the way. I crossed the finish line in 4hours 20mins which I was really happy with, as I beat my Dad's time in his first ever marathon. I am very pleased I did it, especially because I have raised over AED 9000 for Cancer Research UK and Harrison's Fund. Click here for the link to my fundraising page is - it will be open for another month. Thanks to everyone who supported and encouraged me to do this. Thanks to those who have donated to make this possible. Also, huge congratulations to our staff, parents and students for participating in the Standard Charter Marathon, 10km Road Race and 3 km Fun Run.

Nurse Rachel Jex reports: On Friday 24th January 25,000 people were waking in their beds around 5 am to prepare for the run of their lives. Team JBS had several members of staff, parents and students running in all 3 runs. The atmosphere on race morning was great. Everyone taking part was encouraging each other. The sea of runners moving along the Beach Road was an awesome sight, people dressed as bananas, fathers pushing prams, walkers and runners all together. It felt like a much shorter run than my usual practice runs with so many people running with you! Arriving at the finish line is always emotional, mostly as I am always surprised to make it! The support cheering you on is so inspiring. My medal is now proudly displayed at home and somehow I have now agreed to run a half marathon. Running is addictive! I am never going to be fast, finishing is my goal!" Huge congratulations to our staff, parents and students for participating in the Standard Chartered Marathon, 10km and 3 km races. ---
