Slide1:  2006.6.24 APRU New Initiatives and Open Forum Session New Initiatives for Global Knowledge Sharing by Research Institute for Digital Media and Content in Collaboration with International Institutions Yuichiro Anzai President, Keio University Slide2:  What is Contextual Digital Content? It is digital content with context, such as real-time images, video clips, audio tapes, movie programs, animation programs, sport, music, performances, scientific experiments or other scenes, books, journals, reports or other edited pages of documents, a series of digitalized pictures or photographs, promotion videos for universities, industries, governments, and so on. Knowledge Sharing in Global Community Contextual digital content could constitute an enormous portion of our body of knowledge, to be shared and used for many purposes in global and local communities. Research and Development How to create, store, send, distribute, share, retrieve, edit, use, and profit from contextual digital content in a global community is an open and challenging issue for R&D in media technology, human-machine interaction, knowledge handling, business management, financing, legal systems and others. Benefits for Society Industries for contextual digital content are generally labor-intensive and/or cost-inefficient; better technologies and management will produce greater benefits for society. Human Resources There are very few professionals in universities, industries or governments who can design and manage contextual digital content and its large-scale platforms. Thus, universities need to take a decisive role. Creation of Global Platform for Contextual Digital Content Provides Excellent Opportunities Slide3:  Major Goals: Develop a global platform for creation, storage, distribution and utilization of contextual digital content with a global network of people, studios and international institutions. Nurture professionals in content creation, innovation and management in content industries, and development of global content platforms. Help develop new industries related to contextual digital content. Develop legal studies for intellectual property, international laws and other initiatives that will help create new legitimacy in global distribution and management of digital content. Develop new organizational systems for universities.
