Karen Beckwith:  Karen Beckwith Partnership & Performance Director EESCP in The Race for Skills:  EESCP in The Race for Skills EESCP Strategic Boards:  EESCP Strategic Boards EESCP’s Delivery and Resource Group (DRG) is supported by three Strategic Boards: Young People (14 – 19) Adult (19+) Business On 10 July a regional summit was piloted (on the subject of ‘enterprise’) which brought together these three boards for the first time, and established effective joint working on a specific topic. Favourable evaluation deemed this a successful blueprint for refocusing the role of the three EESCP strategic boards around two or three annual summits on priority skills issues - with the next one planned for ‘employer engagement’ early in 2008 Olympics and WorldSkills:  Olympics and WorldSkills Four 12-month action plans have been developed which address the following four objectives: To engage, raise awareness and develop understanding of the London 2012 Games with key agencies involved in education, skills and employment To identify the associated skills needs, of the London 2012 Games utilising existing knowledge within the region To integrate the skills needs of the London 2012 Games into regional skills planning cycles To create a sustainable legacy which will support and add value to the region, aid prosperity for all and ensure business and individuals have the world class skills they need EESCP Supporting Local Area Agreements:  EESCP Supporting Local Area Agreements The aim of this work programme is to encourage local partners to reflect EESCP’s priorities for improving skills, education, employment and competitiveness within their LAAs. A project to: Identify Pilot LAA Use pilot to develop best practice model & extend approach to all LAAs across the region Southend identified as suitable area following EESCP analysis and a meeting with EERA & GO-East. EESCP met with Southend Borough Council (14 Sept.) Skills identified as a key issue in Thames Gateway area Sector Skills Council Surgery:  Sector Skills Council Surgery SSC Surgery Days aim to bring together key strategic partners involved in sector skills and employment to ensure a coordinated response to the development and delivery of regional sector priorities and services. Discussions focus on: Updates on SSAs at national, regional and local levels Dialogue on the development of sector qualification strategies Progress on the business planning for National Skills Academies and Regional Skills Academies being introduced and progressed within the region To date, we have held three Surgery Days in June, August, September and met with 13 SSCs European Social Fund:  European Social Fund The ESF Framework for the East of England focuses on two priorities: Extending the employment opportunities of disadvantaged groups Developing a skilled and adaptable workforce to improve productivity, innovation, enterprise and competitiveness Our development of the framework included a wide public consultation where responses were analysed and changes made, with the submission to ESF Division achieved on deadline Ratification of delivery plans, put together by Provisional Co-financing Organisations (CFOs) to be formally agreed by European Programmes Strategy Group in early October
