Background In October 2013 myself and GP ran a trial trip to a region of central Italy called Abruzzo and as the response was over whelmingly positive this has become a permanent fixture on the Free Flight Academy calendar. This trip is a relaxed thermalling course, aimed at both the low air time pilot who wants to build confidence and skills and the more experienced pilot wanting to enjoy some of the most beautiful flying sites I have found in Europe. It is an ideal location with wide grassy launches , football field sized landing sites and the added bonus of Italian food. I can assure you we have (rather selflessly) done some intensive research on your behalf and located some fantastic places to eat and debrief the days flying. I guarantee you the metre of pizza, BBQ meats, pasta and wine will not disappoint. For me however the real selling point of this trip is the opportunity to spend a day flying in Castelluccio (pictured on the front of the brochure). Castelluccio is a real hidden gem not very well known amongst UK pilots; with the morning cloud flight ranking high up in my list of all time favourite flights. The February edition of Skywings contains an article I wrote after the last trip so if you are still undecided take a look!
