Description

It has become a fashion in India to dishonor the Supreme Court. The politicians and big businessmen have taken India’s highest court for granted in the recent times. Subrata Roy, the head of the Sahara Group, was sent to jail after defying Supreme Court’s order. N Srinivasan, the head of the BCCI, is the latest one in the long list. He was ordered by the court to step down from his post in order to help in fair probe in the spot fixing scandal where his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan is under the scanner. However, the Chennai based businessman has refused to follow the instruction. "No one can force me out of BCCI. I have done nothing wrong,” he said after Supreme Court’s latest statement. Even, the BCCI has come out in his support. The governing body of Indian cricket will now await a court verdict on the Chennai Super Kings owner. According to BCCI’s vice president Shivpal Yadav, the BCCI will wait for the top court's order to decide its future course of action. This is enough to show that Mr. Srinivasan considers himself above the law and is ready to face the music of the highest Indian court. He has always been like this in his career. The BCCI chief forced India’s cricket parent body to amend its constitution in order to help him in buying in one of the IPL franchises. The next plan of action was against Lalit Modi, who was dumped out of the board on his instruction. Another controversy was related to his son.
Ashwin, the son of BCCI’s president had accused his father of unleashing a series of violence against him and his partner Avi Mukherjee to cure his homosexuality. According to Ashwin, his father has been finding ways to teach him and his partner a lesson after he came to know that he was a gay. Srinavasan has always taken law in his own hands either through bribery or with the help of his political relations. However, it won’t be an easy job for him to escape from the Supreme Court of India. I am pretty sure that some stern statement will be passed after learning that he has not left his post. The date is set for 27th March, when Supreme Court’s panel of judges will decide on the future course of action in this case. Let’s hope Mr. Srinivasan is taught a tough lesson so that he can start respecting judicial system of the country.
