Description

Some parents come to me and ask why they should bother with treatment if there is a chance the child may stop bedwetting by him or herself in due time. My answer to this question is, “Even if you knew your child would stop wetting the bed within the next few years, why would you want to let your child continue to suffer from enuresis? Why let your child be unable to stay away from home and continue to wake up to a wet bed?” Usually, the answer to this can go without saying.

Is it possible for a child to stop wetting the bed without any treatment?/ By Dr. Jacob Sagie and Tal Sagie Statistically, the majority of children will stop wetting the bed without treatment between ages two and four. By age four, just 25% will still have enuresis problems. By age six, instances of enuresis drop to 15%, with just 4% to 5% by age twelve. It is still important for parents to realize that there is no way of predicting when bedwetting might stop. Even when a child sees decreased frequency of bedwetting, it is still important to seek out treatment. And of course, if frequency stays the same or increases, treatment should also be seriously considered. With that in mind, failure to seek treatment for a child can also result in a psychological problem developing in the child as a result of his or her self confidence being affected by the enuresis. The child may find him or herself asking questions like, “Why does this happen to me?” and “Why can't I control my body?” Sadly, so many children who have enuresis feel as though they are alone, which is why parent support is that much more important. Clearly, bedwetting can impact a child's quality of life and make him or her downright miserable. Because of this, it is truly a parent's responsibility to do everything they can to solve their problems with enuresis. For more info please go to: http://www.bedwettingtherapy.com
