Slide1:  A REPORT ON Two people…Two perceptions Slide2:  The concept… All of us, who share the growing pride of India’s rising stature in the family of nations, also share an equal measure of discomfort for that 'other' India, India of less fortunate, underprivileged people…which we have left behind. Khushii has received constant support from its well-wishers and friends in three years of its existence. Not one to rest on its laurels Khushii has always strived to raise funds through its own efforts. Over the last few years Khushii has worked as a catalyst to heal an ailing India by joining hands with the leading lights of the nation. Thus have emerged fund raising events such as a cricket match between the experts in the field and the star entertainers of the country. A ghazal evening where Khushii has played the dual role of raising funds for its Projects and doing its bit to bridge the cultural divide between the two Nations India and Pakistan. Also, giving the well known artists of both the countries an opportunity to lend their name to a cause.   Inspired by its mission for empowerment for sustainable development and with a vision of bringing the two India’s together, Khushii created an integrated platform called – India on Canvas. India on Canvas was a unique endeavor to bring some of the most eminent Indian personalities, together with the greatest names in the art fraternity to jointly produce canvases that were auctioned for charity.   Slide3:  The participants… The concept of Khushii-India on Canvas was discussed with the artists and the Eminent Indians, and we could feel that the concept generated a lot of enthusiasm in the art field though the same was coupled with some qualms and misgivings. The pulse and excitement started building up and slowly, with a list consisting of only a few artists in the beginning, reaching to an enviable 100, who all happily agreed to be part of this wonderful charity event…some of them giving more than one canvas. The artists became the direct patrons of charity as their paintings and art works became instant largesse for the less fortunate. It’s not only the artists from Delhi who were a part of this event instead, artists from Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Indore, Bhopal also contributed with passion for the event. Similarly, more than a 100 eminent people of India from various fields of business, theatre, films, fashion, politics, literature, architecture, medicine, media partnered with us to be a part of one of the biggest and most successful art auction ever to have happened in India. Slide4:  The artworks… India on Canvas resulted in production of some of the greatest works of art ever done. The most wonderful part being that people like Ratan Tata, Amitabh andamp; Jaya Bachchan, Tina Ambani, P. Chidambaram, Sunil Mittal and others spared their valuable time to paint for the cause enjoying discovering the creative side of their personality…Some of the biggest names in Indian art like Jogen Chaudhary, Anjolie Ela Menon, Laxman Shreshtha, Paresh Maity and others put in their best efforts in their own creative styles. Each artist was paired with an eminent Indian and together they painted a canvas that was an expression of their joint creativity and a masterpiece in itself. In total 121 amazing artworks were created for this charity auction. Slide5:  The Invitees andamp; the Venue… Almost 2000 invitations were sent out to the who’s who of Delhi and event was well attended by an elite gathering of 1500 people…who would not want to be a part of such a prestigious event…and that too for a noble cause! The event and the cause for which it was planned did not go unnoticed by the British High Commissioner to India, Sir Michael Arthur. Sir Arthur at his most humble, very kindly and generously lent his residential premises for this historical event to happen. Slide6:  The Auction… Since, the auction was earmarked to create history it was but natural that the best name in conducting auction step forward with their expertise in the field. Mr. Ian McGinley of Christie’s- the most well known international auction house, was invited to conduct the auction. The auction, which took almost 4 hours to complete, sold whopping 115 paintings on the spot. The excitement sensed in the beginning amongst the potential buyers continued till the end with people continuously raising their paddles to bid for the extraordinary artworks. The competition, lust, jealousy… was all there to buy the art, after all everything is fair if you are getting an opportunity to purchase a beautiful asset combined with the reason of charity. Slide7:  The PR… The Auction gave Khushii the opportunity to share with all present the work it has been doing with the underprivileged sections of the society, both in urban and rural India. The event proved to be an effective catalyst in bridging the gap between the have and have-nots of the society. The event successfully showed the path to those who have the means and will to help the less privileged but had hitherto no idea as to how they could do so. The event was well covered by both print and electronic media. Slide8:  India on Canvas an annual affair… The event India on Canvas, due to its unique concept was very well accepted by almost everyone. Who so ever participated or attended the event appreciated it for all the good reasons associated with it. The kind of response Khushii got after the event has encouraged us to organize this event on an annual basis. What is even more encouraging is that most of the artists who participated this year are already getting ready to be a part of the event in 2007. Some of them have already made verbal commitment to showcase their works in the next event. Also, the buyers have been very responsive as they got a rare opportunity to see history being made, as they were able to buy collections ranging from Rs.26, 000 to Rs.95, 00,000. The most expensive painting that was sold for Rs. 95,00,000/- had a minimum bid price of Rs. 25,00,000/-. The event also offered an equal and exceptional platform to all artists whether established or growing to show case their paintings. Encouraged by the immense encouragement and appreciation it has received, Khushii plans to organize 'India on Canvas-2007'. For sure, in 2007 we hope to see an event expected to be more celebrated and much bigger than what has been seen in 2006. Slide9:  Utilisation of Funds… Khushii has always aimed at striking an equation between those who enjoy all material comforts and those who lack even the most basic requirements for survival. The funds raised through India on Canvas will help us better achieve that. Given below is a brief overview of various Projects and how we aim to best utilize the money raised from the event: Neemrana Community Development Project In 2003 Khushii adopted a village Neemrana in District Alwar, Rajasthan. The purpose and aim was to adopt a holistic approach towards the development of the village. Khushii programmes have been empowering the society through twelve-point programme (for more details please visit our website www.khushii.org). In the course of three years Khushii has empowered the women of the area by forming self-help groups that support members of the group in all aspects whether it be economic empowerment or financial support. To provide equal opportunity to all children it has been running remedial classes for children of the village. 'Khushii Telemedicares'- The Telemedicine Hospital in technical collaboration with Fortis Hospital, Noida, was recently opened in Khushii’s adopted village Neemrana, District Alwar. The hospital is being started with the aim that the villagers of Neemrana and the populace from neighbouring village, which total to over 3.50 lacs, get the benefit of specialized medical care at their doorstep. Lack of adequate knowledge, awareness, finances and conveyance make the provision of timely healthcare services a rarity in the rural setting The hospital, besides bridging geographical distances will ensure that significant proportion of patients in remote locations are successfully managed locally with advice/ guidance from specialists/ super-specialists in cities, without having to travel to the specialists, thus loosing out on their daily wages. Telemedicine would help these patients to avail timely consultations from specialist doctors without going through the ordeal of travelling long distances at large expense. In this context the Telemedicine Hospital would be a highly cost effective and viable option for the rural populace.Besides having a doctor and paramedic on hand six days a week, the hospital will also offer services like Pathology, X Ray facilities etc. Work is on full swing to ensure that this facility is available to the residents at the earliest.  Slide10:    Mannat- Old Age Home Khushii has purchased land in Neemrana for Mannat-Old Age Home, which has always been a passion with Khushii. Since last 3 years Khushii has already been working for old people by supporting them with free of cost health services and monthly pensions. Mannat will take care of old people by ensuring their health, recreation, economic and other basic needs. Aparajita-Women Empowerment Programme   Aparajita-Women Empowerment Programme has been running in Neemrana where we have empowered women through SHGs and vocational training programmes. The girls who completed the courses were placed in various organisations. Khushii is in process of acquiring infrastructure for vocational training institute. The courses started would be Cooking, Pickle making and housekeeping, Telemarketing, Cutting andamp; Tailoring, Beauty Culture and Secretarial Practices.   Shikshaantra-Remedial Educare Programme As of now 300 children are getting remedial education in Delhi and Neemrana under Shikshaantra-Remedial Educare Programme run by Khushii. The target for 2007 is to educate 2000 children and 250 adults in both Delhi and Neemrana through this programme. Survey at various communities is complete and soon centres would be started in these areas. Value based education, awareness about HIV/ AIDS, health and hygiene and personal grooming will form an important component of this programme. Khushii is also supporting 31 Tsunami children studying at Bahai School, Sikkim and taking care of their overall development including their education, boarding andamp; lodging and other activities. Slide11:  Looking forward to… 2007
