PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE ED 1 Community based Placement (9 in class seminars including orientation and 50 hours community placement) 1 Week School Observation block prior to school placement ED 1 & 2 School Placement Once or twice a week in a school with block placement times scheduled Over 80 days in a school placement

FIRST YEAR SEMINAR - 2014 • ED/EDUC 1000 3.00 Rethinking Schooling: A "Re Introduction" to Education • rethink and reflect upon your own experiences with education and learning • develop an awareness of the transformative and disruptive power of learning • a more critical understanding of the dynamics of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, culture, ability/disability and structures of privilege in knowing and learning • 3 credit course goes towards the York degree as an elective

Practicum Experiences Community Placement and seminar • One Week Classroom observation Classroom Placement including 20-day Teaching Blocks • Minimum 80 days in a school • French Immersion schools (Public/Separate schools) • Core French

12 Francophone Culture Credits • Exchange experience to a francophone milieu • Full academic year = 12 credits • List of courses available on the website • Any combination of approved courses to equal 12 credits • EXPLORE program (through exchange, work/volunteer opportunities) Personal letter and letter of reference if applicable • Must be completed while enrolled as a York student = 3 credits

ADMISSIONS: IMPORTANT DATES EARLY CONSIDERATION DEADLINE: Deadline - March 13 (BA/iBA admission mid-March), offers April 10. STANDARD CONSIDERATION: Deadline – April 11 (fee April 14)*, offers early May 2014. *Must be conditionally admitted to your Glendon BA/iBA program by April 25, 2014. Note: If you are not successful in the early round, we will automatically reconsider you for the standard consideration round.

ADMISSIONS: French online assessment • In January, we sent you an e-mail with your unique URL, username and password for the French online assessment. – Format: The evaluation lasts 90 minutes and you must do it in one session. It consists of three sections: a personal profile, a short composition, and 100 multiple choice questions. – There is an Anglophone and a Francophone version. – In case of technical difficulties, please contact Renee Khargie at or 416-736-2100 x88126

TIPS ON PUTTING TOGETHER YOUR STRONGEST APPLICATION • Follow deadlines and directions carefully. • We are looking to see that you have a distinct passion for teaching and languages. • We value experience working in the context of a group, as well as experience with youth of a similar age to the age group you want to teach. • The Personal Statement should be reflective and show depth of thought. • Give yourself time to prepare, write, and edit your Personal Statement and Experience Profile.
