Description

A thought provoking write-up on impact of mobile phones in India.

Impact of Mobile Phones in India “Hey, he always picks my calls” you state proudly to your circle of friends and you suddenly become enviable. Have you wondered this statement did not exist 10 years back. That was the time when one would rush to pick up his/her mobile phone. And then 20 years ago, when one only had landlines, the only time a call was not answered was when nobody was actually there to respond to that funny ring of “Tring, Tring”!! Jokes apart, now, is this really a matter of pride? And what impression does the person throw on to others when he usually does not respond to calls? What about the basic courtesy of calling/replying back? I am astonished, how quickly the society of this time has accepted this new reality where mobile phones are all pervasive but lack of communication is much more than earlier times. It is amazing to note that such people are not a minority. May be it is time a session on ‘courtesy’ be included in the school curriculum. Not to be too much cynical about the current situation, mobile phones have and are going to be all the more impacting the lives of people in general. The penetration of mobile phones has beaten down the penetration of PCs & internet, landlines etc. Innovative things are already happening on the mobile phones and it is on the rise. A recent article on M-learning highlights how mobile phones can impact delivery of education through mobile devices is in this blog at the bottom. Hats off to Mr. Gorakh Nath Sharma for this initiative. Our very own virtual classroom platform called IntelliTuts delivers conventional classroom lecture on the mobile phones. (Click here for details). Our mobile based sales force management solution called mSFM can be a boon to the Sales Heads of companies having remote sales team where reporting has always been an issue. (Click here for details). Our team did a path-breaking solution of SMS based train ticket booking for the Indian Railways, called MobiTkt, where a user can book a train ticket by sending 2 SMSs only and it can be from any low-end phone as well. We are on our way to putting mobile phones to more innovative ways for reporting purposes in various domains especially in the government sector where accountability has always been a problem. I would urge the bureaucrats of todays’ times to start thinking on these lines and use mobile as a tool for bringing in effective governance. I invite more thoughts on this topic. We would be happy to talk to people interested in developing mobile applications for business purposes. Please feel free to write to info@saraltechnomart.com
