2008 Heroes Fair Projectpresented by Georgette Hackman : 2008 Heroes Fair Projectpresented by Georgette Hackman 5th Grade Social Studies A presentation to introduce students to the Heroes Fair Project Objectives for this presentation : Objectives for this presentation Explain the components of the project Explain the criteria for choosing a hero Check for understanding of material presented Navigation Instructions : Navigation Instructions Click the arrow buttons at the bottom of each slide to go forward and backward as needed. A research project that culminates in the Heroes Fair presentation to the school Every 5th grader is required to participate What makes someone a hero? : What makes someone a hero? Heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things. They are like you and me. They have faced challenges in their lives and they have made choices about how to respond. Many great men and women have accomplished some incredible things in the history of our country and the world. By learning about these men and women, we give ourselves the chance to be like them and to really make a positive impact in our own lives. How will I choose my hero? : How will I choose my hero? You will create a list of 5 hero candidates you are interested in All four classes will be assembled in the cafeteria Student names will be drawn on a lottery basis Students will keep track and cross off choices as they are taken All heroes are subject to approval by the 5th grade teaching team. What are the project requirements? : What are the project requirements? A written report A tri-fold visual board A speech written in your hero’s voice A presentation given in costume on the day of the Heroes Fair The Written Report : The Written Report Must be typed in a font no greater than 16 point Must have three focus areas: The hero’s biographical information Why this person is a hero Why you chose this person as your hero Tri-Fold Visual Board : Tri-Fold Visual Board Must contain at least one picture of your hero Must have a map showing where your hero is from Must contain a famous quote by your hero Must be neat and colorful The Speech : The Speech Must be at least 2 minutes long Must be written in your hero’s voice Will be presented in class and on the day of the Heroes Fair You may write it on index cards or use your tri-fold board to remind you about what to say. It will be graded on presentation only, you are not required to hand anything in for this portion of your grade. What does it look like? : What does it look like?
