The world always needs more of it and companies with the capacity to deliver it always have a fighting chance of making it big, even if commodities such as coal, gas and uranium are hardly fashionable. For the uranium, we are looking in one of the world’s great provinces around the Alligator River where Alligator Energy are one of very few companies in active exploration. This area has given birth to serious mines and deposits such as Ranger, Nabarlek and Jabiluka but with low spot uranium prices, exploration is well and truly off the boil. Since the private Macallum Group became a cornerstone shareholder, Alligator has significantly ramped up its efforts, looking for larger 100 million pound deposits with reasonable grades. At least five such targets will be drilled this year as the refreshed Alligator board put the pedal to the metal to find WALKABOUT Resources has a slightly different problem — it has its foot on the largest thermal coal deposit in Botswana but has to find a way to get the product to markets. That is looking more likely as the governments of Namibia and Botswana approach agreement for the trans-Kalahari railway line, which would pass conveniently close to Walkabout’s 7 billion tonne Takatokwane coal deposit. Neighbouring South Africa is also planning a rail extension to the Waterburg coal fields in the country’s north so a couple of options are emerging. With Botswana importing electricity from its neighbours and Africa as a whole short of electricity, coal looms as the likely fuel to bridge the gap with the possibility of a combined export, electricity generation and coal beneficiation (coal to gas or coal to liquid) facility. You wouldn’t take it to the bank but with a couple of interesting copper and platinum prospects in Tanzania as well, Walkabout is an energetic speculative buy. IF there is one thing the US has in spades at the moment it is gas, with plentiful shale MOKO Social Media is inching towards a Nasdaq listing, with yesterday’s announcement that it had filed a confidential draft registration the latest kick. US valuations of its college, sporting and political smartphone applications are sure to be higher and it remains a speculative buy. It is a high-risk game but with some of the Extract Resources team on board who developed and sold the Namibian Husab uranium project for more than $2 billion, Alligator is a speculative buy. supplies helping to rejuvenate the country’s manufacturing sector and keeping prices low. The obvious answer of exporting gas as a price arbitrage is cautiously taking shape with eight projects due to finish by 2019. Australian company Liquified Natural Gas is one of those, with its Magnolia project in Louisiana due to finish in late 2017. LNG has been able to fast track Magnolia because it had already completed all of the engineering work on an almost identical plant in Gladstone, Queensland which was postponed. The good thing for investors is that a series of regulatory announcements are likely to keep flowing this year, with potential share price moves — hopefully upwards if the news is good. There are certainly technical and regulatory risks but once the plant is operating, LNG simply clips the ticket on the way through as customers supply the gas and then ship it off the other side in liquid form. A speculative buy. service@slicemedia.com Ref: 240056361
