GP Registrar Introductory Workshop:  GP Registrar Introductory Workshop Tony Mathie; Director 15 February 2007 Slide2:  General Practice is the easiest job in the world to do badly and the most difficult job in the world to do well Professor Dennis Pereira Gray New Address:  New Address Regatta Place Brunswick Business Park Summers Road Liverpool L3 4BL Tel: 0151 285 4471 Fax 0151 285 4466 PMETB:  PMETB PMETB took over from JCPTGP on 1 October 2005. Formal decisions previously made by JCPTGP will be honoured. Informal advice may not be accepted or may be delayed. PMETB and RCGP charge for Certificates and these charges will rise. Keep in touch with Deanery website for news. PMETB contd:  PMETB contd PMETB address is 7th Floor Hercules House Hercules Road LONDON SE1 7DU   Tel: 020 7160 6100 (switchboard) Change in Regulations:  Change in Regulations There are a range of changes being introduced. See website for details. List A and List B posts are now different but for you it is possible to be assessed under the old regulations. In future there will only be August starts for the 3 year VTS. Other starts for GPR will continue. Driving Licences:  Driving Licences All GP registrars MUST have FULL UK Driving Licences. Failure to have such licences may result in exclusion from the programme. Certification:  Certification You should already have registered with the RCGP Certification Unit. If you have not done so, DO IT NOW. The earliest date for signing off final VTR/1 and Trainer’s Reports for August starters is 20 June 2007. Article 11 Applications can go off to PMETB 4 months in advance with the final VTR/1 and Trainer’s Report going at 6 weeks. Article 11:  Article 11 If you are applying for an Article 11 Certificate be aware of the following: PMETB may not accept RCGP informal advice. There is no clarity over posts more than seven years old. If it goes wrong it may not be possible to find an additional post immediately. Certification:  Certification Twice a year when we deal with Certification there are a number of common problems – There are new Certificates which must now be used. They are on the website. These have a space for you, the applicant, to sign. VTR/2 Forms must be stamped by the Trust. All VTR1 andamp; 2 forms from this Deanery must be signed by the Director Slide11:  Forms must not be signed by supervisors / trainers until six weeks before the end of each training post. Do not photocopy completed forms. Do not use Snopake If you have had a split post, e.g. because of Maternity Leave, you need a separate VTR for each part. If you are doing an Innovative (GP Based) post or an extension you need a VTR/1 for full time. DO NOT put 'ologies' on the Certificates. Slide12:  INCORRECTLY COMPLETED FORMS LEAD TO DELAYS YOU CANNOT WORK AS A GP UNTIL YOU HAVE A PMETB CERTIFICATE IN YOUR HANDS. Article 11 Certificates take a long time. Regulations:  Regulations You must be on a PCT Performer’s List to work as a GP Registrar and, when you have finished, you must make sure you are still on it to work as a GP. From April 2006 you will also need to be on the GMC’s GP Register. This should be automatic. You must keep your GMC Registration up to date. If you are on Permit Free Training or HSMP you must keep that up to date and anticipate the need to apply for leave to remain at the end of training. Gold Guide:  Gold Guide The current Green Guide to GP VTS will be replaced on 1 August 2007 as will the current Orange guide to SpR training. All trainees will be Specialty Registrars (StRs) and have a National Training Number. Out of Hours:  Out of Hours Out of Hours logs (see website) must be attached to the Trainer’s Report. Reports without logs will not be signed. New Programmes:  New Programmes From August 2007 there will be 108 three year programmes of 6 x 4 months plus 12month GP. One third will include an additional 4 months GP. One third will include an Innovative Post. Short Programmes will cease from August 2008. Stand alone GPR will cease from August 2009. GP Registrar Committee:  GP Registrar Committee It is very important to have at least one representative from each half day release course. It is important that GP Registrars take the opportunity of feeding back on their training when asked to do so. Voluntary Extensions:  Voluntary Extensions Due to the new programmes starting in August 2007 there will be no further opportunities for voluntary extensions except for Teaching Fellowships in the near future. Teaching / Research Fellows:  Teaching / Research Fellows These are for 12 months starting in August– half in practice and half in the Liverpool Undergrad. Dept or elsewhere. Opportunity to be involved in PBL, Clinical and Communication skills, etc or to do research. Joint appointment with Mari Lloyd-Williams – Director of Community Studies Flexible Training:  Flexible Training The reduction of the minimum requirement from 60% to 50% has been made law. Flexible Registrars wishing to change their proportion (and the length of their training) need to see the Director. There is now an application form on the website. MRCGP:  MRCGP Doctors starting in February 2007 cannot take nMRCGP because of the requirement to have at least one year of Workplace Based Assessments. The closing date for old MRCGP was 9 February. You will therefore take the current summative assessment. SA and MRCGP MCQ in May are on the same date. Summative Assessment:  Summative Assessment All GPRs now need to do an '8 point' audit. Don’t leave taking the MCQ until the last opportunity. Give yourself a safety net. Take advantage of preparation courses. Study Leave:  Study Leave THERE IS NOW A LIFETIME PER CAPITA LIMIT OF £750. Previous agreements will be honoured. Please read the guidelines carefully and apply in plenty of time. We generally do not fund courses that are not core, e.g. DRCOG Preparation. We do NOT fund attendance at examinations, this is claimed direct from PCTs. Maternity Leave:  Maternity Leave Because nearly all training slots are full and there are 151 GP Registrars in post, there is some urgency about getting sorted with a post when you return. Make early contact with the office and keep in touch. Flexible training is not a problem. HPE:  HPE This opportunity ceased on 1 April 2006 due to national funding problems. The Flexible Career Scheme and the Returner Scheme are also suspended until further notice. Feedback:  Feedback At the end of your GPR posts you will be asked for feedback. This is online. I do not see this without express permission. Please feedback. Also there is an annual PMETB survey of doctors in training. Only around 50% of the last cohort of GPRs completed it. This is on line and now mandatory. Odds & Ends:  Odds andamp; Ends Photographs If you have not been photographed previously you will be photographed today. The Office As well as Myself and my Deputy and 5 Associates there are 8 members of staff to help you. However nearly everything you need to know is on the website.
