(See Handout) Group 3 – Drivetrain:  Group 3 – Drivetrain City of Sioux City, IA 2004 Impala 0-10K 6 Units Problem: The low oil light comes on before the oil change interval of 2,000 miles. Only 2004’s with 3.8 liter engine using oil…not a problem on previous years. From brand new, the 2004’s used 1 ½ quarts oil in1500 miles (lots of idling time also) Response: Same as previous. Valve stem oil seals. Dealer documentation ID # 837352, 651941, & 747694 for repair Group 3 – Drivetrain:  Group 3 – Drivetrain City of Decatur, IL 2001 Tahoe 20-30K 2 Units Problem: Lifter noise. GM dealer says lifter noise is normal Response: See Service Bulletin # 02-06-01-038 and document ID # 1206539 pertaining to aeration of oil and oil pump “O” ring seal. (See Handout) Group 3 – Drivetrain:  Group 3 – Drivetrain City of Sioux City, IA 2001-03 Impala 30-40K 20 Units Problem: Engine and transmission mounts are not heavy enough to handle the rough service. As lower mounts give out the clamp on CV boot can rub the on frame and when clamp comes off, the grease flies out Response: See Service Bulletin # 02-03-08-002 and document ID # 854087 for repair (See Handout) Group 3 – Drivetrain:  Group 3 – Drivetrain City of Beaumont, TX 2001-03 Impala 50-60K 60 Units Problem: Transmission failure. Availability of remanufactured transmission is poor Response: Due to continuous improvement process on transmission durability it is recommended local GM Rep be contacted to identify and resolve specific issues. Ask speedy delivery of transmission via SPAC case Group 4 – Drivability:  Group 4 – Drivability City of Sioux City, IA 2001-03 Impala 20-90K 20 Units Problem: Rubber donut used as exhaust hanger, only 12” from catalytic converter, hardens and breaks from excessive heat. These hangers are continually replaced on Impala Police cars every 20-30k miles Response: Under investigation. Need failed parts Group 4 – Drivability:  Group 4 – Drivability City of Decatur, IL 2001 Tahoe 20-40K 2 Units Problem: Low idle speed Response: See Service Bulleting # 04-06-04-079 for carbon buildup at throttle plate. (See Handout) Check TPS switch Group 4 – Drivability:  Group 4 – Drivability Thurston County, WA 2002 Blazer 75K Problem: Fuel pump failures @ 75,000 miles Response: Isolated problem – under investigation – fuel sock? Armature? More information needed. Group 4 – Drivability:  Group 4 – Drivability City of Tulsa, OK Equipment Mgmt. Dept. 2001-03 Impala 20-40K Problem: Rear exhaust manifolds cracking Response: See Service Bulletin # 03-06-05-002 catalytic converter. New stamped rear exhaust manifold heat shield plus revisions to manifold to accept shield implemented 10/1/02. Revised calibration to enrich mixture and cool exhaust gases implemented 2001 SOP. Contact local GM Rep for specific replacement information. Part # Manifold 12576864; Shield 12588277; Bolts (4) 11519964; Heat Shield for knock sensor 24506490. (See Handout) Group 4 – Drivability:  Group 4 – Drivability City of Tulsa, OK Equipment Mgmt. Dept. 2001-03 Impala 20-40K Problem: Intake manifolds cracking Response: Increased material thickness in late 2003 MY. Non-issue in 2004 Group 5 – Brakes:  Group 5 – Brakes London Police Service London, ONT, Canada 2001-03 Alero/Malibu 10-20K 23 Units Problem: All brakes rotors rust Response: Under investigation. Need more information Group 6 – Handling:  Group 6 – Handling City of Colorado Springs, CO Police Department 2002-03 Impala 15K 125 Units Problem: Outer tie-rod ends premature failure Response: See Service Bulletin # 02-02-32-006 for information on Police Vehicle Only repair. Replacement part # 26086580 Note: Special Tie Rod for Police Vehicles is different from retail vehicles (See Handout) Group 6 – Handling:  Group 6 – Handling City of Colorado Springs, CO Police Department 2002-03 Impala 15-30K 50 Units Problem: Front hub bearings Response: New bearing preloaded from OEM with hub assembly and added grease volume. Started MY 2004 Group 8 – Cooling System:  Group 8 – Cooling System City of Sioux City, IA 2001-03 Impala 20-90K 20 Units Problem: Radiator fans are noisy or don’t run at all. Radiator fan assemblies being changed approximately every 30K for defective fan motors. Noisy fans ultimately will stop and all vehicles experience overheating of engine and transmission Response: See Service Bulletin # 02-06-02-011A and document ID # 1212681 for repair. Fan motors available as separate units in 2004.
