General Conference of Seventh day Adventists Health and Temperance Division 2007-2010 Goals 1. Seventh day Adventist churches should establish a presence in all communities within the sphere of influence as health promoters and at best promoters of optimal health. 2. The Seventh day Adventist Local Conferences’ Health and Temperance Director should mail regular epidemiological updates to each local church to the Health and Temperance Secretary. 3. 12 Step Recovery groups related to drug, alcohol and other addictions should be made possible for every major city Seventh day Adventist church. 4. Vegetarianism and ways to improve semi-vegetarian towards vegetarianism should be promoted among all Seventh day Adventist Churches. 5. Health and Fitness groups should be in offered to the community in each local church-offering monthly talks (e.g., video, tape, guest speaker) on ‘prevention’ topics such as: Coronary heart disease, cancer, overweight/obesity, diabetes, hypertension, etc. 6. Health education classes should be conducted by health professionals and lay members alike for specific health needs of the local general public, e.g., ‘stress’, e.g., good food, relationships, exercise, service, hydration, sunlight, pure air, rest, trust in divine power. 7. An overt health evangelism component should be integrated into all outreach programs; song and music activities, literature distribution, fund raising, church socials, holiday dramas, etc. Objectives

General Conference of Seventh day Adventists Health and Temperance Division 1. Every conference should have a full time professional health director with an assistance ‘acting’ health director. 2. Every conference should have at least one or more centers with a full complement of health educational programs being carried out through out the calendar year, e.g.: a. 12 Step Recovery Group-Leader training. b. Vegetarian Cuisine Instructor training. c. Health/Fitness Exercise Instructor training. d. Medical Educator training. e. Bible health Lecturer training. 3. Every conference should have a 3-15 minute “Health Spotlight” (or a “Health Tips” that are simple and easy to do) report every Sabbath mornings in between Sabbath school and the Sanctuary worship services. 4. Every conference with health education centers, church schools, home schooled children should have a recommended health, fitness, and wellness related curriculums for elementary through secondary aged children. 5. Every conference should have subtle access to a common Union Conference sharing center for finding, improving, or upgrading local church health goals and objectives. 6. Every conference should have free or low cost ‘health risk’ check for ‘lifestyle’ related medical conditions in the community annually. a. Coronary health b. Cancer c. Overweight/Obesity d. Diabetes e. Hypertension f. HIV/AIDS g. Osteoporosis, etc. 7. Every conference should assign a church member to spot-check the progress, and suggestion counsel from the writings of Ellen G. White or other Seventh day Adventist related pioneers to the local Conferences related to these goals and objectives. Tasks

General Conference of Seventh day Adventists Health and Temperance Division These goals and objectives should be approved by the General Conference of Seventh day Adventists with positive input from the Seventh day Adventists in the fields of conventional Medicine, Osteopathy, Chiropathic, Naturopathy, Integrative medicine, etc. in accordance with the writings of Ellen G. White, from all countries including the Division Health and Temperance Directors. These goals and objectives should be circulated worldwide from the General Conference of Seventh day Adventists as a global campaign to all Union Conferences to all Local Conferences, to all local churches detailing the tasks to be integrated and carried out according to that admonished in Isaiah 58. A task force at each Seventh day Adventist church should be appointed to study the financing of professionals requiring stipend in the aforementioned health fields for attaining these goals and objectives related to the needs of the community people in each Conference.
