CHANGE HISTORY The following Change History log contains a record of changes made to this document: Published / Revised Version # Author (optional) Section / Nature of Change 11-14-2011 1.4 Nasir Rizvi Type of Exchange Backups ( HP Data Protector ) Full Backup Includes all data (database and all log files) regardless of the changes made after the last backup Incremental Backup Includes log files only. Refers to the previous full or incremental backup, whichever was performed last. After the backup, log files are deleted. Before you run an incremental backup, ensure that a full database backup exists. Otherwise, a restore from such an incremental backup session fails.

How to restore Database from HP Data Protector Select Mailbox exchange admin wants restored. Select Restore method: Restore files to temporary location. Select date admin wants backup restored from. Select your target client which will be one of the physical nodes the admin has created a folder for restore. Its either fmxiex01 or fmxiex02, do not use the dag name it backs up under. Select Perform Database recovery. Select OK View slide

Select the startup client to be the same as the target client select above. Select any drives if needed. Look for any media that may need to be recalled. Start restore. Exchange 2010 Restore View slide

Exchange Task Restore Single mailbox Use this command to restore single mailbox Restore-Mailbox -Identity “OtherMailBoxLoction” -RecoveryDatabase TUL71_DB4REC -RecoveryMailbox “RestoreMailbox” -TargetFolder Recovery Full Database restore 1. Exchange Team advises Bur team where to put the restore files. BUR TEAM will place the most recent transaction logs in the same directory as the .edb file. 2. Map a drive to the server and directory of the production logs (production logs = any logfiles created after the last full backup up to the point of failure).

****NOTE: Only copy the .log files……jrs or .chk are NOT needed. 3. Paste to the same directory as the restored files. (see screenshot in step one)

4. Dump the database header using eseutil from the directory where your .edb is located (Example below: R:restore_79_Test> eseutil /mh Tul79_DB8.edb (see Screenshot below)

5. From the above screenshot verify that you have the “log required” in the restore directory: 6. Rename the newest log file available to “exx.log” (where exx represents the first three characters of the logfile name.) (in the example above it was E07000000107.log….which was renamed to E07.log as indicated in the screenshot below):

7. Rename the Exx.Chk file in the restore directory, from the old logs, to “exx.chkold” 8. Run ESEUTIL/Ml EXX (where exx represents the first three characters of the logfile name) renamed in step 7 to verify the integrity of log files.

9. Verify in the mltxt file that utility ran successfully. If any log files are missing try to locate files and move into the directory. 10. Run eseutil /r on the log files to merge old logs into the recovered database:

11. Run eseutil /mh on the RSG database you are working with. This will dump the database header. The database must be in a “Clean Shutdown” state or you will not be able to mount it. 12. FROM POWERSHELL: Create RSG database: New-MailboxDatabase –Recovery –Name RDBTUL79DB8 –Server USTLMCOSD072 –EDBFilePath “R:RDBRDBTUL79DB8Tul79_DB8.edb” –LogFolderPath “R:RDBRDBTUL79DB8_Logs” NOTE: EDB file path has to point to the directory and file that was restored.

13. Copy the restored .edb to the recovery database (In example above: RDBTUL79DB8)

14. Go to EMC and open the properties of the RDB database and be sure that “this database can be overwritten by a restore” is selected. 15. Mount the RDB Database 16. To Merge Data: Run (Get-Mailbox -Database TUL79_DB8 | Restore-Mailbox –RecoveryDatabase RDBTUL79DB8) and when prompted select Y 17. To verify successful restore drill down to the following location on the server where the restore was performed from: d:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange ServerV14LoggingMigrationLogs and open the most recent Text Document
