Training, education and events in the historic built environment www.frewconservation.co.uk

Training, education and events in the historic built environment Frew Conservation work in partnership with a range of respected craftspeople, consultants and existing training providers to manage, facilitate and deliver bespoke traditional skills training events and courses. We can also deliver a range of CPD lectures and seminars to interested organisations and practices on building conservation and repair issues, with a focus on traditional masonry buildings. In particular, we work closely with built heritage and regeneration organisations including; Townscape Heritage Initiatives (THI's), Conservation Area Regeneration Schemes (CARS) and City Heritage Trusts (CHT's) to design bespoke training programmes. Our training courses and packages are custom made to suit specific local needs and requirements, ensuring the highest quality of training for participants, whilst delivering Best Value for the client. Frew Conservation have recently delivered training courses and CPD presentations for; - Institute of Historic Building Conservation - Historic Scotland - Rothesay Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) - Campbeltown THI - Glasgow City Heritage Trust - Building Limes Forum Ireland - Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings Established in 2012 by Craig Frew MSc IHBC, Frew Conservation are independent historic building consultants and training providers, specialising in the conservation and repair of traditional buildings, particularly those built of stone and lime mortar. We operate throughout Scotland and further afield when called upon, providing impartial and objective advice and training to a diverse range of clients. Visit our website at www.frewconservation.co.uk

Our approach to training and education… To compliment our own technical conservation experience and knowledge, we work with the best tutors available to create a bespoke team for each and every training project, capable of delivering a consistently highest standard of training and education. Our tutors, whether talented craftspeople or specialist consultants, generally run their own business, therefore ‘practice what they preach’. This ensures that the training is both pragmatic and practical, based on ‘real’ issues and problems faced by building contractors, professionals and homeowners on a day-to-day basis. We deliver area and site based training – we come to you. For Townscape Heritage Initiatives (THI’s) or Conservation Area Regeneration Schemes (CARS), we will design the training around the specific requirements of that locality, to avoid a standardised approach. Ultimately, we aim to provide committed, enthusiastic and personable craftspeople and consultants, determined to exceed the requirements of the training brief and expectations of course participants. Our intention is to make our training as enjoyable as it is informative. Sole principal of Frew Conservation, Craig Frew MSc is a Full Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and has spent the last 12 years advising on the conservation and repair of traditional and historic buildings, working across Scotland in the voluntary, public and private sectors. Craig previously worked in a consultancy and training capacity with the Scottish Lime Centre Trust and Laing Traditional Masonry Group, and as Conservation Officer for Dundee City Council. He is a committee member of the Building Limes Forum and the IHBC Scotland Branch. “Frew Conservation pulled together a team of expert tutors (including Craig) to deliver a package of well-received training courses in a practical and relevant manner. Throughout the process Craig displayed a courteous and professional manner and was always willing to accommodate our requirements. Feedback from delegates was excellent.” James Lafferty Project Officer for Campbeltown THI
