A workshop on time management for high school freshmen.

Time Flies but You’re the Pilot Freshman Focus Session #01 Presented by: Mr. Hawes

“ Why am I here on Saturday?” Raise your hand if you think being here is a waste of your #*(*&%$@ time. Raise your hand if you would rather be doing something else somewhere else.

Hawes’ Non-Negotiables

“Clean Sweeps Are Stupid!” “ It was just a few minutes. Why ya’ll trippin’?” “ This campus is too big and I’m new. I don’t know my schedule yet.” “ I’m not messing up my sneakers.” “ I’m young, I got all the time in the world.”

“ This campus is too big and I’m new. I don’t know my schedule yet.”

“ I’m not messing up my sneakers.”

“ I’m young, I got all the time in the world.”

In time, your views on time will change. As an adult, you will be expected to value time by complying with set schedules: Work schedules (full time, part time) Class schedules (personal, children) Family schedules (holidays, vacations) Financial schedules (bills, bills, bills, taxes) Why do you think it’s called a DEADLINE!

If the shoe fits…put it on the other foot What if your parents were CHRONICALLY LATE providing a comfortable, safe home for you? What if your teachers and administrators were CHRONICALLY LATE providing a safe, productive learning environment? What if your boss was CHRONICALLY LATE providing your paycheck?

The True Value of Time To realize the value of one year … To realize the value of one month … To realize the value of one week … To realize the value of one day … To realize the value of one hour … To realize the value of one minute … To realize the value of one second … To realize the value of one millisecond ...

Definition of an Entrepreneur The Ultimate Hustler! Willing to work 16 hours per day to avoid having to work 8 hours for someone else. Able to master his/her resources. Spends time like money. Doesn’t allow trivial pursuits to cause a distraction. Willing to do the things that competition will not. Has work ethics that rival talent.

“You Expect Me to Run???” "Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you are a gazelle or a lion, when the sun comes up you better be running.” -African Proverb

Your Greatest Opponent Your most challenging opponent is not another person, team, organization or system that competes for the same goals you desire. Your greatest opponent is not a strange person with strange values and a strange perspective from a strange place. You know your fiercest opponent already and your success will largely depend upon how well you are able to conquer this opponent. Our most challenging opponent in life is most always OURSELVES .

You Don’t Have to Run to Class Just think about the students on this campus and all over the world who would do ANYTHING to be able to run to get to class on time…ONCE. What sort of things do you take for granted?
