Missionary Newsletter

January 2014 My dear friends, Here we are at the beginning of a new year, I am at my desk raring to go, but before everything else, I want to greet you all and bring you up to date with regards to my work. I thank God so very much for all of you and your amazing support. always lways, As always, I begin with a great quote! “The OUTGOING GOD, then, calls us to wildness and risk and humility and love. We have quite deliberately started with God. If you start with man you start worrying about your future, your profession, your bank balance, your children and 101 reasons for doing NOTHING. But if you start with theology and with God – then it all looks quite different.” (M. Griffiths) PERSONAL This morning in my devotions I read of Dr. P.P. Job who said “I feel as if one of my arms has been cut off” soon after the death of his son. Next month, my son Jonathan will have gone to the Lord 4 months ago, but what a testimony he left. In his diary he wrote “I am going after the lost – Dad. I want to be like you, a missionary. In standard 5 my teacher asked me what I want to be one day – I said “I want to be a missionary to the Congo.” It’s close now. I am loving my prayer times with the Lord.” His longing to serve Africa alongside me never materialized but the work now goes on more passionate than ever. Thank you all for your love and prayers over these past few months, you have carried us as a family. This College now enters its 28th year and what a glorious ministry it has had. On our pillars of the Bible and Missions, I have sought to train Africans who have been disadvantaged in the sense that they do not have money or the academic qualifications to enter the main Colleges, for ministry into Africa. Over these years the Lord has brought us over 400 students from all over Africa and they have been trained to be pastors and missionaries in Africa. Hundred’s of Churches have been planted and the new student intake for 2014 looks promising … we are on the edge and it is so encouraging. Pray for me as I lead the College and give 30 lectures a week. MISSIONS TRIPS INTO AFRICA This YEAR MANY DOORS HAVE OPENED FOR ME TO TEACH THE Bible in Africa which is great. During the first two terms I will be visiting Zimbabwe in February, Malawi in March, the Congo in April, Mozambique in June and Uganda and Rwanda in July. In addition I will be leading mission conferences at our CESA Churches in Benoni and Tygerberg and preaching most Sundays. Together with KMBC, the Lord has given me a full plate … it is incredible that I can live out my dream at this stage of my life … to follow David Livingstone right across Africa from Cape Town to Nairobi teaching the Bible …. and your support keeps me going. The biggest need among all our Churches across Africa is for RESOURCES so last year I launched this ministry. It seeks to supply very cheap second-hand books to students and pastors in Africa and the funds generated will all go to specific projects. Last year I provided electricity for Anderson Mwila in Zambia which was thrilling. This year I am hoping to erect a vibracrete double garage, when funds become available, to house the books which at the moment are kept in a wooden shed. It will also double up as a resource centre so … won’t you pray that we may be able to do this, right here at KMBC. Last year I introduced a new prize at the KMBC graduation service – “The Jon Cole-Edwardes Church History Prize”. Jon loved reading about the great Church characters and missionaries. The prize was awarded to Theophilus Meta-Phiri. THE SHACK also donated all the other prizes for the graduation which was exciting.

OUR TEAM OUR COMMISSION Footprints into Africa is blessed with a great team of missionaries all working for the same goal, pray for each of us: Gregg Cole-Edwardes –my co-director Charmaine Swart – the general secretary Sipho & Amanda Moyo – Chaplains to the students at KMBC Anderson & Margaret Mwila – Pastor in Zambia Christopher Mulapwa, Pastor in Zambia Lenard Gowa, Pastor in Malawi Sheena Park – looks after The Shack Sonnyboy & Val Kumalo – in Katlehong, Gauteng. TRAIN up a new generation of preachers and missionaries for Africa. Men and women who are passionate for the Gospel and who believe the Bible to be the Word of God. This makes the work at our College of critical importance. MENTOR these pastors and missionaries by regularly visiting them in Africa, living with them and encouraging them in their great work. No one receives a salary, but we all work flat out doing what we love most … reaching into Africa. -------------- PLANT NEW CHURCHES which are I cannot thank you enough my precious friends for supporting me … SIYABONGE KAKHULU. churches which are self-supporting, self governing based on the Bible and not hampered by tradition, and self propagating. ARRANGE CONFERENCES to In closing a beautiful prayer from David Livingstone: continually be equipping God’s people for the work of Gospel ministry. These have been great blessings to many. “NOTHING … earthly will make me give up my work in despair. I encourage myself in the Lord, my God and go forward. My Jesus, my King, my life, my all. I again dedicate my whole life to you. PREACHING where invited across Africa believing that when God’s Word is preached, God’s voice is heard.
