Foods to Boost Your Metabolism
Losing weight and then maintaining a healthy weight is challenging. We live sedentary lives. As we age, our metabolism slows. Metabolism is the energy required to buildup and breakdown our cells. This process requires energy and nutrients to work efficiently. The nutrients found in the following foods will help your body process cell metabolism. Improved metabolism means greater calorie burn. Greater calorie burn leads to a leaner, meaner, you. So eat these foods for better weight control.
Green Tea –Catechins (a strong antioxidant) make up over twenty-five percent of green tea (the other ingredients are caffeine and a sense of superiorority). These antioxidants rid the cells of nasty toxins and they aid in heat production, helping you burn calories.
Oatmeal – Oatmeal is rich in fiber. Fiber is good for the soul. It also helps the digestive system and helps you feel fuller longer. It adds bulk without adding calories. Eat it and be even closer to total consciousness. Oh and aid your weight loss efforts.
Grapefruit – If you can get over the tartness and bitter-beer face you get with your first bite, grapefruit will add vitamin C, which lower insulin levels and increases metabolism. You also get nondigestible fiber.
Broccoli – The first cavewoman who decided to try this funny looking plant deserves credit for overlooking taste for nutrition. Broccoli is low in calories and high in fiber and nutrition.
Hot Peppers and Chilies – Capsaicin, the chemical that makes peppers hot, will make your nose run, it may even make you run or hop. It may increase your metabolism. It will certainly increase your calorie burn as you attempt to alleviate the searing pain. (hint, water doesn’t help)
Lean Meats – Lean meats are protein heavy. It takes more energy to digest protein and protein makes the majority of our cells innards.
Look for foods high in fiber or protein if you want to boost your metabolism. Additionally, stay hydrated. Water works as the pathways for the cell nutrients to work their way into the body; and cell debris to work its way out.
