Nifty ends above 6150; IT index top gainer Market Snapshot | 19-02-2014 04:21 PM Tracking the mixed trades in global peers, Indian indices opened marginally in green. Benchmarks continued to trade in positive terrain but the cautious sentiments curbed gains on the upper side. Subsequently, in late noon trades, buying in IT stocks pulled markets higher and ended near intra-day high levels. Sensex gained 89 points and Nifty closed above 6150. On global front, US indices witnessed mixed trades following a long weekend Asian and European indices too traded on a mixed note. Back home, Sun Pharmaceutical jumped 1.6% on BSE after getting nod from US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to sell a drug to treat a bone-weakening disease, Osteoporosis. (Read More) Another pharmaceutical major, Ranbaxy Laboratories climbed 3.1% on BSE after the company and US drugmaker Teva have jointly agreed to settle an investigation launched by the New York Attorney General charging the two rival companies to make an unlawful agreement to restrict competition. (Read More) Hero Moto Corp slipped 1.5% on BSE after the company decided to cut the prices of its products ranging from 2% to 5% with the maximum reduction of Rs 4500. (Read More) IVRCL posted a sharp decline of 161% in December quarter Net at a loss of Rs 177.7 crore as against a loss of Rs 122.5 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The stock ended 0.98% up on BSE. (Result) The market breadth on the BSE closed in positive. Advancing and declining stocks were 1516 and 1253 respectively, while 165 scrips remained unmoved. The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 20722.97, up 88.76 points or 0.43%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low of 20750.52 and 20629.56 respectively. 16 stocks advanced against 13 declining ones on the benchmark index. The CNX Nifty gained 25.65 points or 0.42% to settle at 6152.75. The index touched high and low of 6160.35 and 6125.75 respectively. 27 stocks advanced against 23 declining ones on the index. S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 6376.94 and gained 0.50% while S&P BSE Small-cap index jumped up by 0.66% to 6372.20. The broader S&P BSE 500 index increased to 7566.54 (up 0.44%) and CNX 500 index rose to 4752.90 (up 0.45%). The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 2.21% at 15.07 from its previous close of 15.41 on Tuesday. Sectors in action On the BSE Sectorial front, Information Technology (up 1.48%), Healthcare (up 1.17%) and Consumer Durables (up 1.11%) were the top gainers. Metals (down 1.06%), Power (down 0.41%) and FMCG (down 0.18%) were the top losers. The Angels and the Devils Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 2.35%), Infosys Ltd (up 2.01%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 1.49%), Wipro Ltd (up 1.35%) and HDFC Bank (up 1.33%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
