Winter Weather - Mid-Atlantic Situation: • Winter storm brought light snow, freezing rain and sleet to portions of North Carolina to MidAtlantic on Friday, March 7, 2014 Impacts: • Ice accumulations of .25 to .5 inches in some locations • Downed trees, downed power lines, local road closures, and isolated flash flooding reported ▲ Power outages for NC as of 6:00 a.m. EST, 283K customers without power (down from peak of approximately 500K) (Duke Energy) ▲ NC: 5 ARC shelters open with 61 occupants (ARC; 4:30 a.m. EST, Mar 8) • No fatalities or injuries reported • No significant travel related impacts reported State/Local Response: ▲ Governor of NC declared a State of Emergency and waived weight/service restrictions on truck drivers to expedite response to the winter storm • NC EOC remains at Normal Operations ▲ TN EOC returned to Normal Operations March 7 ▲ All other States remain at Normal Operations FEMA Response: • No Regional RRCCs activated • NRCC not activated; NWC is at Watch/Steady State • No shortfalls or unmet needs • No requests for FEMA assistance *Note: Customer outage data is provided by the Department of Energy’s EAGLE-I system.
