Preparing our students for their future Digital Media Skills Findings (MEI) summary • Workers in non-ICT capacities are using digital communication skills increasingly in every day work activities. • Over the past 5 years the average growth of users in what what was considered specialised digital tasks is greater than more mainstream tasks. • Specifically animation, video, and audio are the fastest growing areas with more than 35% growth over the last 5 years Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Preparing our students for their future Digital Media Skills Findings (MEI) summary • Workers in non-ICT capacities are using digital communication skills increasingly in every day work activities. • Over the past 5 years the average growth of users in what what was considered specialised digital tasks is greater than more mainstream tasks. • Specifically animation, video, and audio are the fastest growing areas with more than 35% growth over the last 5 years • In the future, tasks such as working with video, animation, audio, and websites will be as common as creating presentations and newsletters are today. They’re out there creating, sharing, and researching things important to them, and they know how to get information when they need it. • Students acquire technology skills much faster than their teachers and quickly become classroom experts. • As educators we must become more than information experts; we must also be collaborators in learning; leveraging the power of students, seeking new knowledge alongside students.
