Methods of gathering feedback • • In order to attain feedback from intended target audience, as well as general audience, companies will use strategies such as pre-release screenings. This they will invite a certain audience and respond to their feedback accordingly. An example of this is the pre-release screening of Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ which tested the audiences acceptance of a very violent scene. Another strategy could be to look at reviews and ratings on websites such as Rotten Tomatoes. This feedback will be from the general audience, once the film has been released. The box office figures, readership figures and awards will also give information on the audiences overall response. • Questionnaires for an audience to fill in are also useful, as the answers provided will give an insight as to how successfully you fulfilled your film specifications in terms of genre, target audience etc. HOW WE WILL GATHER FEEDBACK: •We have produced a questionnaire for other classmates to fill out once they have watched the trailer. •I will upload the trailer video to Facebook and gather the feedback from my Facebook friends. •I will gather the feedback from the comments on the YouTube upload.

Target audience for trailer, poster and magazine cover • It is very important for producers to be able to identify their target audience so they can then aim their ancillary products in the same direction as their film, in terms of theme, genre and conventions. This will enable them to sell the products as much as possible. • The focus group for our audience feedback will come from our target audience. It is important for us to know the gender/age of those feeding back so we can identify whether we have achieved a media product to suit them. This will then help producers to modify, accentuate and sometimes remove certain conventions/scenes/aspects of the film. • Our target audience of gender: male, age: 15-25 will be focused on for prescreenings, and general feedback tactics because, as our target audience they are most important audience to the success of the film. Our questionnaires will also be filled out by a wider audience rather than just our target audience as we plan on appealing to off-shoot audiences as well, to increase our overall revenue. Having opinions from a variety of people will inform us on whether our film will be an overall success.

Class feedback on our trailer As a class we watched each others trailers, and then answered the questionnaires. Gathered from our questionnaires we had this positive feedback: -Camera work was done well and editing was clever x3 -The freeze frames and mise-en-scene were exciting x2 We also received some constructive criticism which will help us to see the point of our trailer that didn’t work so well and so could be changed. This would help us in the long run as the changes we would make would then appeal more to the audience and so there will be more viewings. -There was a bit too much of the main action shown, if it was cut down a bit there’d be more of a surprise factor x2 -The dialogue was not loud enough – this we could change by re-filming, or editing the sequence so the soundtrack is quieter. - The music worked well with the action and was suitable for the genre/narrative x2 - The choice of a poker scene (x3) and bank robbery (x2) was exciting and appropriate for the genre

Class feedback on our film poster • The tagline is short and straight to the point, easily read and understood. This is effective because the audience can easily gather the genre and narrative. • The image used suggests the genre well from the gun, and the look on the girls face introduces the less serious, comic side of the film. This is the criticism we received for our film poster: •The image doesn’t jump out at the audience, could have been more effective with a bolder image. •The other actors/characters aren’t introduced at all. – In response to this we then created 2 other posters which had images of the 2 other main characters. • The main title is big and bold, attracting your attention to the poster.
