Evaluation 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

Vox Pops Vox pops are a useful technique to get across to the audience a wide range of opinions from the public in a quick way.

Narration Every documentary has a narrator speaking over the top of what is on the screen, this helps with the flow of the documentary and is also helpful when it comes to summarizing arguments, explaining what is on screen or introducing new themes. We wrote a script for the narrator to read over what was on the screen at the time. We used a female narrator who was in our target audience so that the audience could make a connection to the documentary. Our documentary used the voice of god approach as the narrator never appears on screen. Music We chose a song by Frank Sinatra called ‘’The Coffee Song’’ to feature in our documentary as the content of our documentary was about coffee. If we hadn’t of used music in our opening sequence then I think that it would’ve been boring for the audience to watch.

Rule of Third We applied the rule of third shot every time we filmed an interview or vox pop. The shot should be filmed so that the eyes of the person being interviewed is lined up with the cross in the top left of right hand corners. Title In the bottom third of the screen there should be a title, giving the name and job of the person on screen. We used brown and cream colours for our title to go with our coffee themed documentary and 0 it doesn’t distract people from the documentary because it is simple.

Mise En Scene Mise en scene is important for a documentary because it sets the scene for the audience. This is something that is thought through a lot as it has to link with the topic of the documentary. This is the reason why we chose not to use a green screen but to just interview people in their working environment to show a real life situation. We also did the same for our vox pops that we filmed, we linked the mise en scene to the documentary by interviewing people outside of a coffee shop.
